Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends to enable Leadership, the Board and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities and making the most informed decisions.
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure accurate, timely and understandable financial reporting.
- Lead the financial planning and budget processes and provide analysis and recommendations to senior management.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and risk management strategies, maximizing return on investment while mitigating risk.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including tax, grant, and accounting standards
- Lead financial audits and coordinate with external auditors.
- Provide strategic financial input, guidance and leadership on decision making issues affecting the
organization. - Evaluate the finance department structure and embrace a culture of continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the group, in areas of finance, accounting, budgeting, and grant administration, as well as provide individuals with professional and personal growth.
- Provide leadership of effective contract management processes, including review and negotiation; timely, accurate reporting; proper financial controls; budget management and performance tracking.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with insurance providers to secure comprehensive and cost-efficient business coverage.
- Oversee the development and implementation of legal policies and procedures; identify and address legal issues especially as related to contracting, compliance and risk mitigation; supervise in-house and external counsel.
- Supervise Chief Technology Officer, office services, and facilities to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the organization and ability of staff to be productive and efficient, leveraging appropriate tools and technology
- Plan for and implement continuous improvement of IT infrastructure in order to ensure a consistent and secure environment; keep current with technology trends and advances
- Negotiate and oversee management of capital purchases and leases and facilities leases, manage leases and assets, and oversee communications and interactions with the landlord and other external facilities partners. Regularly evaluate an office/work policy to ensure productivity, strong communications and maximize our ability to recruit and retain staff.
- Ensure institutional records are maintained in an accessible yet secure manner and oversee records retention policies and procedures.
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity policies and strategies; provide regular training to mitigate risk while avoiding service interruptions
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, management, or non-profit administration, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in financial management, audit, legal oversight, IT oversight, and operations, with progressive leadership roles, preferably in the nonprofit sector..
- Expertise in non-profit accounting rules and GAAP with a demonstrated ability to analyze and report on financial data to inform decision-making and strategy.
- Experience with information technology systems, facilities, and general office operations;
- Exceptional management and communication skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers, strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise and backgrounds.
- Strengths in partnering with executive leadership and functional/department heads, to proactively ensure an effective financial, technology and legal perspective is provided across the organization
- Strong verbal, written, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience as a proactive and creative problem solver.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, be comfortable in a fast-paced
environment, and able to adapt to change and growth. - Experience with nonprofit accounting software Sage Intacct; experience with Concur, Paychex, Salesforce preferred
Pay Ranges / Location / Travel Information
The range listed on this job posting is based on JED's compensation posting ranges. Salaries may be higher or lower depending on experience and geographic location.
Location/Travel Information:
Please note that this position is largely remote but will require retreat/business meetings at JED’s central office in NYC or other locations as designated by JED leadership. Additional travel may be required.
