PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cuban Heritage Collection (CHC) of the University of Miami Libraries seeks nominations and applications for the newly established Roberto C. Goizueta Distinguished Presidential Residence program that will welcome leading scholars and professionals from around the world, with expertise in a wide range of subjects aligned with the focus and scope of the CHC’s vast repository of materials and resources on Cuba and the global Cuban diaspora. Each Distinguished Presidential Fellow will be in residence at the CHC for a twelve-month period, overlapping with the university’s academic year. The first fellow will begin no earlier than June 1st and no later than August 15th, 2022. The Fellow’s main charge will be to conduct in-depth research on a project of scholarly or artistic merit based on a particular area or areas of the collection. The Fellow will also be responsible for developing programming that engages with the university and the greater public, including but not limited to delivering public lectures, organizing panel discussions, and/or performances.
SCOPE & ELIGIBILITY
Faculty, researchers, independent scholars, and non-academics (including visual and performing artists, writers, filmmakers, musicians, playwrights, etc.) who are recognized leaders in their respective fields will be eligible to serve as Distinguished Fellows. This program will create a global community of diverse and innovative thinkers, which will play a role in expanding the CHC’s academic programming, as well as advance its reputation as the premier destination for groundbreaking interdisciplinary research in Cuban studies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The Fellow will conduct in-depth research on a project of scholarly or artistic merit based on a particular area or areas of the Collection.
  • In consultation with CHC staff and faculty, the Fellow will develop programming that engages with the university community of students and faculty, as well as the greater public, including but not limited to delivering public lectures, organizing panel discussions, and/or performances.
  • The Fellow will be expected to be in residence at the Cuban Heritage Collection.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must demonstrate excellence and exceptional capacity in their field. They must also clearly indicate how collection materials held at the CHC are relevant to the work they wish to develop while in residency.
APPLICATION PROCESS
This is a non tenure-track Faculty position that offers a competitive salary, generous benefits, and a research/programming stipend. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue through November 2021. The Libraries will be flexible during this time and will conduct most or all of this search remotely. The anticipated start date for this position is no earlier than June 1st and no later than August 15th, 2022. Applications should be submitted here and must include the following:

THE CUBAN HERITAGE COLLECTION: The Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries is home to the largest repository of materials on Cuba outside of the island and the most comprehensive collection of resources about Cuban exile history and the global Cuban diaspora experience. As a premier research destination with the mission to collect, preserve, and provide access to a vast repository of primary and secondary sources that span from colonial times to the present, the Collection hosts researchers, students, and visitors from around the world who can explore and discover a wide and ever-expanding range of information. These materials include published works such as rare and contemporary books, journals, artists books, and newspapers, as well as archival materials including personal papers, organizational records, correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, maps, works on paper, audiovisual content, ephemera, and growing born-digital and digitized collections.
The Collection organizes a calendar of events and programing and curates exhibitions that showcase the richness of the repository. COLLECTION STRATEGIES: The Cuban Heritage Collection together with Special Collections and University Archives constitute the distinctive collections within the University of Miami Libraries’ Collection Strategies division. Additional departments and programs in the division include Acquisitions, Research and Assessment, Preservation Strategies and Manuscripts & Archives Management. The latter units work in close collaboration with the Cuban Heritage Collection, as does the Digital Production department of the Digital Strategies division. The Cuban Heritage Collection program is located in the Roberto C. Goizueta Pavillion within Richter Library. Its collections are housed onsite as well as at the University of Miami Libraries’ Miami Lakes Storage Facility.
