The Associated Press is seeking highly capable team-players to provide top-notch technical assistance in support of our mission to advance the power of facts.

We are adding technical support staff in 4 locations, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Boston.

Our technical staff provide support for cross media equipment and support of all technology deployed at a specified location and other offices. In addition, support of local infrastructure as required.

Responsibilities:
The overall goal for this role is to provide technical support at a consistently high standard over a broad range of technology and media types. This work is done both in person and remotely by serving as an active member of the Global Help Desk. Recording all support activities in the ticket system is imperative.
You will also be responsible for liaising with the Telecoms team on system admin changes, working with broadcast engineers on routine maintenance/installations, tracking AP assets and maintenance of asset records.
The ability to visit customer sites sometimes over long distances and on short notice, and supporting special events and breaking news is imperative for success in this role.

Technical Environment:
Travel may be required for scheduled maintenance and/or emergency events and breaking news coverage. Work hours may include evenings, holidays and/or weekends. 24 x 7 emergency service response as required. Assignments may require working at heights, use of a ladder and some heavy lifting.

Requirements:
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to take initiative.
2-3 years’ successful experience in a similar role is required
Proven record providing excellent customer service
Working knowledge of MS Windows and MAC platforms
Good understanding of physical networking (LAN wiring / electrical, etc.)
Ability to support wireless and mobile devices
Ability to work with users of all levels
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Works effectively even when under pressure
Ability to work a variable schedule and be on-call if required
Travel is required, sometimes on short notice
Valid driver’s license

Preferred but not required:
Technical 2 -year college degree is desired
Understanding of editorial and newsroom operations preferred
Understanding of video and conferencing equipment preferred
Familiarity with web and cloud technologies
Solid prioritization and time management skills
Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision

Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required. Authorization to work in the US for any employer is mandatory.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $58,000 - $66,000, contingent on experience and other job-related factors. Employees are eligible to participate, according to the terms of the official plan documents, in a 401(k) plan, employer-sponsored health insurance plan, and are eligible for paid time off and holidays in accordance with AP policy.
