JOB SUMMARY: Provides communication services by relaying, connecting, and requesting incoming and outgoing telephone calls for internal and external customers.

Responsible for responding to facility, security and medical alerts. Responsible for various alarms in communicating to appropriate departments. A resource to incident command by providing communication support directing request through appropriate channels. Works with all departments to promote effective communication and a safe environment. Assists patient in obtaining language interpretation services as needed and appropriate.

Demonstrates the highest level of customer service and teamwork at all times. Strives to serve the customer and meet their needs. Provides feedback to management team in a timely manner. Models UNC Health standards of behavior at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate degree or some college preferred

Experience: Minimum 1-year prior Customer Service in a call center or like environment with high volume of calls. Data Entry experience required. Medical Terminology and familiarization with hospital departments and functions preferred. Typing at a corrected rate of 35 wpm or higher.

Other: Computer literate with ability to learn current system. Medical terminology or ability to learn medical terminology. Must work independently, use good judgement and decision making skills. Must have strong emotional stability, have pleasant personality, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a positive attitude toward working with the public. Dependability and flexibility are required. Well organized with proven ability to work independently. Skills should include standard office equipment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires: Requires functional range of motion. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending. Push/pull 50 pounds force. Occasionally carry items weighing 25 pounds.
