* This position will be filled as Substation Mechanic I, II, III, or Sr. based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidates. *

* The selected candidate must live within or be willing to relocate within 35 road miles of the assigned service area. *
* This position do not offer relocation benefits. *

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:
Working within Entergy's Safety Rules, perform routine & emergency maintenance and repairs on substation equipment. Under close and directive supervision, perform any work required for construction, installation, maintenance, and testing of all types of equipment used in the communication, control, and protection of electrical transmission and distribution lines, substations, and generating station equipment.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performing assigned duties under established methods and procedures as directed and carrying out work assignments under observation or checking from time to time by a Supervisor, an Engineer, or other personnel.
  • Installing, maintaining, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, altering, removing, or replacing equipment or devices used in the communication, maintenance, operation, or protection of circuit breakers, voltage regulators, transformers, generators, and other related equipment.
  • Planning and performing switching operations associated with the maintenance or construction of substation equipment.
  • Actively participate in monthly safety meetings and yearly training activities.
  • Perform other related physical or less skilled work as directed.
  • Be available for after-hours callout and able to travel to other service territories for support when needed.
  • Be able to operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Be able to qualify for, obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License, TWIC card, CIP background check, and any other required industrial plant entrance testing.
  • Must be able to safely operate all vehicles and equipment in the department, including bucket trucks, crane trucks, man-lifts, skid-steers, and tele-handlers.
  • Completion of the necessary training modules as set forth by the Safety and Training departments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Experience:
Substation Mechanic I:
  • 0 - 3 years of construction or electrical experience
  • 0 - 1 years of Substation maintenance and/or construction related experience
Substation Mechanic II:
  • 3 - 5 years of construction or electrical experience
  • 2 - 3 years of Substation maintenance and/or construction related experience
Substation Mechanic III:
  • 5 - 10 years of construction or electrical experience
  • 4 - 5 years of Substation maintenance and/or construction related experience
Substation Mechanic Sr:
  • 6+ years of Substation maintenance experience

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Understanding of mechanical concepts and good mechanical skills.
  • Be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical first aid.
  • Able to read and understand the following: electrical one-line, schematic and wiring diagrams; technical manuals and instruction books; mechanical and civil construction drawings.
  • Ability to understand technical manuals and instruction books.
  • Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Be able to safely work at heights, close spaces, and confined spaces.
  • Able to use climbing equipment and have ability to handle self on substation structures in safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to assist and learn aluminum and steel welding skills.
  • Must be available for 24-hour call out and be able to work extended hours as necessary.
  • Knowledgeable in MS Office products.
  • Dependable and reliable, and able to work as a member of a team.
  • Self-motivated with ability to make decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Any Certificates, Licenses, Etc.:
  • Must be EEI CAST Test recommended

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL
