POSITION TITLE:

CNC Machinist

POSITION SUMMARY: The CNC Machinist with live tooling is responsible for the setup and operation of the numerically controlled horizontal lathe to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts, including castings, forgings, and bar stock. The position runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding production runs, and maintains a safe, organized and clean work environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs all assigned CNC Lathe operations and programming.
  • Reads and processes sheets, blueprints, and sketches of part to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up, and operating requirements.
  • Mounts work piece between centers, in chuck, or to faceplate, manually or using hoist.
  • Selects and installs preset tooling in tool posts, turrets or indexing heads, and automatic-tool-change magazine, in sequence specified on process sheet.
  • Inspects first-run piece and spot-checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications, using micrometers and precision dial gauges.
  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management or designee.
  • Studies job packet and organizes materials for next run during automatic tape-controlled cycles to shorten changeover time.
  • Sets tools before positioning them in lathe, using precision gauges and instruments.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on machines.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures.
  • Completes and maintains paperwork for parts.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent or graduation from a certified technical school.
  • Minimum one year of related experience
  • Proficient in the use of basic hand tools, measuring devices to verify conformance of product to specification.
  • Possess basic blueprint reading knowledge
  • Ability to operate a forklift, crane, and other light duty equipment as required
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet deadlines

Preferred:

  • Two or more years of related experience
  • Mazatrol Programming
  • Okuma IGF Programming

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional need to drive a forklift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a fast-paced manufacturing setting with frequent interruptions. Duties may require standing, stooping, kneeling, and working overhead for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
