Location: Lawrence, KS
We are mixing up something new in Lawrence, KS. This is an exciting time to join our team. Pretzels, Inc is now a part of Hershey Salty Snacks. We are starting a new line and looking to hire you. We have over 40 years of experience in making pretzels and delivering high quality snacks to consumers.
Pay:
- Starting at $20.00/hr, overnight shift has $1/hr shift differential
- Pay increase to $22.00/hr after 180 days

Shifts:
- Training will begin in June, during the day
- Move to shift in July, starting with 4 days on and 3 days off
- Schedule will be 2-2-3, every other weekend- TBD
- Day and Night shifts available
- 12 hours shifts, 6am- 6pm or 6pm-6am

Job Summary
Responsible for setting up and overseeing the operation of the packaging machines to ensure proper quality and packaging of the finished product, maintaining all packaging equipment including housekeeping, assisting other PMO’s and Supervisors to run the department efficiently and effectively, and completing sanitation duties. Assist in troubleshooting, training, and basic maintenance tasks
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Check gram weight on Ishida operation terminal
- Ensure all bags are running correct weights
- Ensure all bags are in registration, both in cutoff and side to side registration
- Ensure all bags are code-dated properly with both price and date legible and in proper position on face of bag
- Ensure bags are sealed properly on both the back seal and the end seal
- Ensure bag appearance is acceptable
- Add/remove air from bags and ensure proper air fill
- Clear weigher faults
- Perform and document a zero and span adjustment on weigher
- Change knife blades
- Change bag speed in packaging machines and weighers and ensure running rates based on lead label, report discrepancies to supervisor
- Keep machines clean daily
- Clean machine inside and outside when not running
- Clean machine platforms during shift and before shift change
- Keep all formers off the floor
- Keep all formers cleaned and properly covered when not in use
- Keep entire area under and around the machine clean and help sweep packing area
- Keep all film off the floor at all times
- Keep all code-dating supplies cleaned and organized. Keep all code date supplies put away when not in use. Do not leave code date supplies sitting on the machines.
- Have machines set up and cleaned that are scheduled to be started on the following shifts
- Empty machines of all products when shutting them down. DO NOT DRAIN THE MACHINE INTO BAGS! Drain into used appropriate boxes
- Before going to break, make sure there is enough film on the machines to run while you are on break and another PMO has your machine covered
- Weigh defected film, record defect and place film in defective area provided
- Keep infeeds, dispersion table, scales, etc, free from buildup
- Must be able to operate the Video-Jet printers in addition to the Inkjet printer
- Must be able to change the Inkjet printer ribbon as needed
- Must be able to perform changeovers in a timely manner with minimal film waste including ordering and returning materials and following/understanding line sheets and follow changeover procedures
- Must be able to perform a complete “Tear down” and “Setup” of the packing machine and scale system
- Must accurately weigh all film not being used and place on film cart in the proper location
- Pour on bulk before end of shift
- Rework WIP created from metal detector testing
- Must be able to operate all fastbacks systems, weighers, and packing equipment via the panel view
- Ensure all product is cleaned prior to starting the next run and paperwork is completed (this includes allergen and non-allergen procedures followed)
- Perform hourly metal detector checks as required
- Report any metal detector findings, false activations, or other concerns to management immediately and help with investigation
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Must know how to start up and shut down all fastback systems
- Must know how to start up and shut down all packing equipment
- Ensure all paperwork is completed (film verifications, sanitation and 5S paperwork, etc.)
- Complete all required trainings, including Alchemy, timely
- All other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Relationships/Contacts
- Communicate with all team members, including bakers, leads, packers, PMO’s, QC, PC, maintenance, and supervisors
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- 1 to 2 months machine operating
Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write correspondence, ability to speak effectively to employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and metric to SAE conversions – mm to inches, grams to ounces
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form
- Have a clear understanding of how to safely operate packaging machinery
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
