The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is a day position at the Joliet polystyrene plant. The job will require some overtime work and extended hours on weekends, nights and holidays depending on plant needs. It is necessary for maintenance technicians to be on-call on a rotation basis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and repair rotating and reciprocating equipment.
- Analyze and resolve malfunctioning equipment.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis for equipment failures.
- Lead / Participate in the site Preventative Maintenance Plan.
- Advocate for safe work and adhere to all safe work standards, procedures, and housekeeping practices.
- Operate aerial lifts and forklifts as necessary to complete work.
- Support minor mechanical design and project work as well as turnarounds. Provide work direction to contractor crews.
- Performing all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Ensure procedures are valid and up-to date.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma is required.
- Mechanical maintenance education/experience such as millwright, machinist, and mechanical repair in a chemical, refining, or industrial plant.
- Pipefitting skills.
- Ability to read equipment prints, secure information from OEM manuals, and proficiency with measurement tools (micrometers, dial calipers etc.).
- Possesses basic computer skills to interface with maintenance management system and basic Microsoft office knowledge.
- Must be a self-starter and self-motivated. Capable of working and communicating effectively with others.
- Able and willing to take call-ins and work overtime hours.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Work involves climbing stairs and ladders.
- Must be able to work at heights.
- Must be able to wear a respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Preferences
- Capable of basic structural welding.
- Knowledge of basic machining including lathes, mills, and presses.
- Working knowledge of mechanical seals, flush pans, and seal failure analysis.
- Working knowledge of laser alignment techniques.
Other Information
- This position is part of Joliet manufacturing organization, and is located at the polystyrene plant in Channahon, Illinois. Relocation assistance is not authorized for this position.
- Grade and salary level offered to the successful candidate will be appropriate to the job duties and commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
