Position Description

The Nurse Navigator is an experienced clinical professional who provides guidance and education to patients and families. The Nurse Navigator interacts with and helps patients in real-time with educating, assessing care options, and facilitating decision-making. The Nurse Navigator is responsible for assisting the patient throughout the duration of care. Assist in developing policies and operational plans related to the adult inpatient psychiatry service and AU Behavioral Health Program. Round with the Psychiatry team M-F to add a nursing perspective and assist with recommendations, etc. Assist physician team with development of formal safety action plan for high risk patients by identifying barriers, triggers, and solutions from a nursing perspective. With Physician team, provide real-time education to nursing and physician staff for inpatient units about the care of the behavioral health patient (e.g. de-escalation techniques, optimal medication management, proper initiation/discontinuation of restraint). Assist with regulatory audits related to behavioral health issues/documentation and help guide initiatives for improvement.

Position Requirements

Associate's degree in Nursing and 2 years of experience as an RN. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS). Current Registered Nursing License (Georgia) or qualifying multi-state compact license.

Preferred Requirements

MSN preferred. Relevant National Certification. Previous experience in relevant field.
