The Job You Will Perform:

Maintain a stable, responsive, optimized and properly utilized Dray capacity solution for all business units. These Solutions achieve the lowest possible logistical cost to serve and respects the needs of our business units and their customers, and also creates an environment where our carrier supply base views IP as a partner of choice. Responsible for Dray transportation; including sourcing, operations, carrier performance, chassis management, street turns, sustainability, and cost feasibility assessment. Utilize Global Sourcing’s Strategic Sourcing process to facilitate all procurement events. Daily interactions occur with Carriers, Export Operations, Export Buyers, Business Units, and Facilities.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Understanding complexity of different business operations within International Paper.
  • Analyze facility shipments to ensure sufficient capacity is maintained for the facility and modify using service/cost analysis to meet the facility’s shipping patterns.
  • Negotiate and contract the best overall value proposition (price/service/capacity) for Dray services while following the Global Sourcing Strategic Sourcing process.
  • Seek out cost reduction opportunities through negotiations, enhanced cost control, operational stream lining, cost avoidance, and the pursuit of total cost of ownership savings.
  • Develop criteria for “core carrier” selection, maintain current strategic relationships, and consider future strategic partnerships.
  • Develop internal and external relationships with customers and suppliers to improve supply chain functionality by optimizing/stratifying a supplier base that will meet business demands.
  • Review that routing guide compliance is consistent with carriers’ contractual commitments and take corrective action to resolve discrepancies.
  • Continually monitor market trends and conditions to maintain/evolve ongoing business strategies.
  • Work with Export Operations, Export Buyers, and Business Units in order to understand and document the various transportation requirements to meet business needs.
  • Develop relationships with minority suppliers to meet annual minority business spend objective.
  • Maintain Carrier and Facility profiles.
  • Proactively manage issues and disputes
  • Develop and maintain container damage process
  • Responsible for Export sustainability initiatives and metrics tracking
  • Responsible for Chassis Management

Key Challenges:

  • Ability to come up to speed quickly.
  • Ability to navigate through multiple systems to understand business demand.
  • Keeping up with current market conditions and understanding the financial impact those conditions have to the facilities within an assigned region. (Examples: fuel costs, reducing dead head miles, increased payloads, etc.)

Scope:

  • Manage outbound finished product for all mills, RDC’s, box plants, and recycled facilities within International Paper.
  • Responsible for $50 MM in transportation spend
  • Management of locations and number of contracts varies depending on assigned responsibility.

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years’ transportation experience, with multi-mode experience desired.
  • Procurement/Purchasing Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
  • Demonstrated record of achieving results as a self starter
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal
  • Excellent computer skills – Microsoft Office Applications
  • Experience with contract negotiation - desired
  • Experience in mill/plant operations – desired
  • Experience or understanding of dedicated/private fleet operations
  • Basic understanding of DOT compliance/safety
