Under general supervision, the Laboratory Animal Technician Assistant will maintain care and treatment of animals according to standard facility operating procedures and ensure compliance with federal rules and regulations.
UMBC offers competitive compensation. This role starts at $36,000 and has 11 days of vacation and personal days for regular full time roles. Tuition remission is also available.

Working under general supervision, while being part of a cohesive team, the Laboratory Animal Technician Assistant will be responsible for multiple daily duties for the upkeep of the facility.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Daily health checks and cage changes
- Updating room logs
- Ensuring cleanliness of animal facilities
- Assisting in the cage wash rooms (dumping and/or filling cages as needed)
- Performing other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- Six months in a laboratory animal facility supporting a research project similar to the type being recruited for
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment
- Lift, transport and deliver materials and stock laboratory supplies and goods
- Wear and work in personal protective equipment
Note: Additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Biology or another animal-related field
