The Idaho Department of Water Resources is offering an exciting opportunity for an individual who has education and experience related to the field of hydrogeology, effective written and oral communication skills, and wants to have a positive impact on complex groundwater water issues across Idaho.

The position will provide support to our programs that monitor and assess water level and water quality conditions in Idaho.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate for this vacancy would have experience using groundwater databases and GIS software. A demonstrated ability to write and edit computer scripts and programs is also desired.

The Hydrogeologist Staff classification is being used for recruitment and training purposes. The Hydrogeologist Technical is the full working level of the Hydrogeology classifications. The employee will learn to perform the duties of Hydrogeologist, Technical through various types of on-the-job training. Upon completion of the training and meeting the minimum requirements, including Professional Geologist licensure in Idaho, the employee will complete the underfill Staff position and will be reclassified to the Technical level.

Example of Duties

  • Apply knowledge of hydrogeologic principles and practices;
  • Support hydrogeologic studies and programs to include field work and data management;
  • Characterize the water resources of aquifer basins;
  • Provide peer review of technical reports;
  • Prepare written technical reports to document studies and analyses;
  • Make oral presentations to agency personnel and public;
  • Participate on technical committees involved in developing solutions to hydrogeologic problems;

Minimum Qualifications

Good knowledge of:

  • Principles, theories, and practices of groundwater hydrology or hydrogeology including those pertaining to groundwater flow
Experience:
  • Collecting and analyzing data to evaluate groundwater characteristics and flow

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience using GIS applications to process, analyze, and display hydrogeologic data
  • Experience using databases to enter, process, and display hydrogeologic data
  • Experience writing and editing computer scripts and programs

Working Conditions

The work is performed in an office and field environment. The position requires regular travel and may involve hazardous conditions with intense noise. This position requires occasional overnight stays. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to balance, bend and stoop, climb, crawl, grasp, kneel, pull hand over hand, push, reach above the shoulder, sustain repetitive motion, sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods of time, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
