Our firm has been serving the Los Angeles County for over 35 years. Founder and Lead Attorney and Associates handle matters in the general practice area of Civil, Personal Injury, Probate, Estate Planning, Family Law and Criminal Matters

Our family-operated law firm is welcoming an experienced Family Law and Probate Paralegal and Case Manager to our team, who is eager to join a group of professionals dedicated to providing exceptional service and attention to clients.

This position is responsible for beginning-to-end case support, including drafting of judicial council forms, pleadings, motions, discovery, scheduling and calendaring, and preparing documents for attorney appearances. This position also entails facilitating and scheduling remote court appearances, case planning/organization, client interaction and interfacing.

Primary duties include:

Case Development & Client Communication

  • Clear and frequent communication with clients by telephone, text messages and or emails in both English and Spanish languages, in a manner that is compassionate and understanding of their unique legal situations.
  • Ensure that client intake and supporting information is timely received.
  • Working directly with the managing attorney to develop case strategy and implementation, including drafting forms, pleadings, motions, and discovery.
  • Creating case workflows to ensure the managing attorney is aware of upcoming deadlines and is up-to-date on case development.
  • Communicating with 3rd parties such as opposing parties, opposing counsels, beneficiaries, and court clerks, or judicial officers;
  • Providing or discussing case-related information without violating the attorney-client confidentiality.
  • Drafting legal forms, pleadings and or correspondence for managing attorney.
  • Use attorney’s notes, client intakes and any evidence submitted by the client to draft the following types of documents:

  • Discovery Responses
  • Probate Cases
  • Petitions
  • Notices

  • Objections
  • Draft notices and correspondence at the managing attorney’s direction to either clients, opposing counsels, other attorneys and other case-related 3rd parties.
  • Use LawYaw cloud-based software to draft legal forms.
  • Draft case management documents for court, including trial briefs, mediation briefs, witness lists and exhibit lists.
  • Draft sample Memorandum of Points and Authorities for the managing attorney based on case-related issues.
  • Conduct legal research via practice guides, manuals, and other resources.
  • Prepare proposed judgments, judgements, Findings and Orders After Hearing, Notices of Ruling, Notice of Continuance, and other related pleadings

Case Management

  • Strategize with Attorney
  • Weekly meetings with the managing attorney to discuss case strategies, plan for upcoming deadlines and court hearings.
  • Meeting with the managing attorney immediately after court hearings to complete follow-up case tasks.

Calendar Management

  • Calendar major deadlines e.g. court hearings, submission of supplement to probate notes, motion response and reply, deadlines.
  • Completion of tasks by the deadline assigned by the managing attorney.

Use of Court Portals and Electronic Filing Systems

  • Use LA CourtConnect and other Court portals to schedule remote appearances, reserve motion dates, obtain case-related conformed documents, and confirm court hearing dates.
  • Monitor probate case portals regularly to check probate notes.
  • Use of electronic filing 3rd party vendors for electronic filing of forms, pleadings and other case-related documents.

Case File Organization & Attorney Preparation

  • Neatly organize family-law and probate physical files according to tabbed sections.
  • Ensure that attorney is provided case documentation before client appointments, and for drafting of case-related documents;
  • Assemble the file in chronological order and prepare the attorney for the hearings and placing the file and pleadings in order.

Comprehension of and Adherence to California Code of Civil Procedure/Family Law Rules of the Court/ Probate Rules of the Court/General Civil Rules of the Court

  • Prepare notices and citations required in probate proceedings, coordinate service of process, calendar deadlines for responses and defaults all while adhering to due process requirements.
  • Provide notice of ex parte hearings, prepare ex parte documents and filings adhering to state and local procedures.
  • Using knowledge of default procedures, preparation of default documents and prove-up documents.
  • Adhering to state and local probate procedures for various Petitions including, but not limited, removal of trustee, heggstad petitions, and declaratory relief.
  • Calendar motion opposition and reply deadlines.
  • Draft supplements to clear probate notes for attorney to prepare.
  • Discovery management
  • Receive, process, and calendar deadlines for discovery
  • Coordinate with clients to obtain information for responses to requested discovery, and execute verifications with them.
  • Establish a working draft of responses for attorney’s review, including analysis of evidence and related documents.

Review and Draft pleadings and forms related to the financial aspect of probate and family law matters,

  • Prepare Drafts of Income and Expense Declaration using client intake and paystubs or financial statements.
  • Prepare and review Inventories and Appraisals, accountings;
  • Be able to read financial documents submitted by opposition to and spot out deficiencies and brief attorneys for argument.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality of highly sensitive client and vendor information.
  • Punctual and adherent to work-schedule in proper office attire; (if applicable, during telecommuting, punctual at clocking-in).
  • Strong command of written English language, proficient with proper grammar and without spelling errors for emails, letters and case-related notes and messages;
  • Must be Certified Paralegal or have 5-10 years paralegal experience, specifically in family law and probate required.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with California Code of Civil Procedure, California Rules of the Court, Los Angeles Rules of the Court, San Bernardino Rules of the Court.
  • Strong command of verbal, telephonic, and email communication in both English and Spanish
  • Comprehension and ability to follow ex parte procedures
  • Comprehension and ability to follow probate procedures
  • Comprehension and ability to follow general civil procedures
  • Comprehension and ability to follow family law procedures.
  • Professional, organized, and takes initiative.
  • Computer competency and knowledge of Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with online case management systems (e.g., MyCase)
  • Experience using judicial council forms using LawYaw document draft software
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro software
  • Prefered Licensed Notary Public
  • Spanish proficiency, including written for document translation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
