Job Title: Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager for EMCOR at Stanford Medicine
Job Summary: EMCOR Facilities Services (EFS) has an immediate need for an Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager in Menlo Park, CA. EMCOR Facilities Services (EFS) has an opening for an on-site Environmental, Health and Safety
(EH&S) Manager supporting Stanford Health Care (SHC) Facilities in the Bay Area. The project is approximately 3.6 million SF with more than 200 locations / facilities spread throughout the Bay Area (the portfolio). The EH&S Manager effectively ensures that SHC remains compliant with Federal, State and Local regulations as well as Stanford environmental programs, procedures, and safe work practices. The EH&S Manger will serve as the primary liaison between SHC and Stanford’s EH&S compliance
department. Lastly, the EH&S Manager creates a safety and environmental culture through safety and environmental training, risk assessments, internal audits and behavior modification programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, manages, and maintains all environmental and safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety-related regulations, in addition to Stanford environmental health, safety, and loss prevention standards and guidelines.
- Manages the construction management and safety program, hazard identification and assessment for the portfolio. This is inclusive of Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), asbestos, lead, confined space, electrical safety, hazardous waste, LOTO, fall protection and other core safety and environmental programs. This includes either performing, coordinating, or managing staff training.
- Provide oversite of the fire drill program.
- Provides plan review and assessment of construction drawings for environmental hazards and proposed mitigations
- Ensure all The Joint Commission (TJC) documentation as applicable to patient safety is closely adhered to.
- Will perform work authorization inclusive of the development of pre-construction risk assessments, interim life safety measures, and review of infection control risk assessments, as applicable to all work efforts requiring such.
- Resolves and / or escalates all safety and environmental issues in a timely fashion. May respond to off-hours for chemical spills / odors / unknown hazard assessments or will manage vendors which will assist
- Evaluates risk management information to identify potential safety and environmental hazards, impacts, then identifies and recommends corrective and preventive actions.
- Performs root cause analysis and investigates mishaps and all other safety and environmental incidents.
- Responsible for timely closure manages all safety and environmental corrective and preventive actions.
- Prepare and support programs related to the Emergency Management Plan and Business continuity Plan.
- Monitors and reports out on sub-contractor Experience Modification Rate and the Total Recordable Incident Rate.
- Ensures that all new employees and subcontractors receive necessary Safety, Health, and Environmental training during initial on-boarding.
- Edits and ensures all key safety and environmental elements are within the SHC Operations Procedure and Plan.
- Co-manages records and documents related to chemicals, safety data sheets (SDS), and refrigerants that are utilized by the Maintenance department.
- Performs safety audits and regular physical inspections of grounds, buildings, equipment, and operations then identifies hazards and incidents of regulatory non-compliance and recommends corrective measures.
- Acts as the lead investigator and manages all SHC Site Support Services employees, contractors, and sub-contractor injuries and near misses.
- Effectively applies industry methodology and behavioral modification to enforces safety and environmental standards.
- Documents and keeps track of all incident and mishap lessons learned and shares those lessons with staff.
- Develops and maintains relationships with all pertinent customers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health, and Environment or Industrial Hygiene or equivalent Science field
- Must be able to work collaboratively with Stanford Health Care and Stanford Children’s Health Environmental Health and Safety departments
- 10+ years of experience in a healthcare environment.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) is preferred.
- Familiarity and experience with the development of ICRA’s, PCRA’s and ILSM’s as applicable to all work efforts requiring such
- Demonstrated understanding of Cal-OSHA, OSHA, AQMD, EPA and other regulatory agencies.
- Must possess knowledge of safe work practices, operations, maintenance practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment, and tools to support a facilities management
- Must have knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the EH&S fields.
- Demonstrated and exceptional customer service skills.
- Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors.
- Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.
- Effectively communicates in both written and verbal discussions.

- Experience in development of work safety plans that encompasses work scope and compliance
- Experience in delivery of OSHA and TJC related safety training to all levels of an organization.

Compensation Range: $130K - $155K
