The University mission is to establish Colorado State University Pueblo as the people’s university of the southwest United States by 2028.

To support the University mission, the Division of Enrollment Management & Extended Studies will work creatively and diligently to attain optimal enrollments, enhance student development and success, and support the academic units and overall mission of the institution with the purpose of ensuring seamless systems and positive experiences for our students.

The Office of Admissions at Colorado State University Pueblo will support the University mission and enrollment goals by providing intentional, professional, and attentive service to facilitate recruitment and admission, with the purpose of attaining students from diverse backgrounds who are well-suited to the University.

Description of Job

The Downtown Welcome Center Coordinator is an integral member of the Admissions team located at the CSU Pueblo Downtown Welcome Center. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: developing and executing day-to-day outreach and recruitment activities at the center; coordinating group and individual visits for prospective students and community partners; providing counseling on the admissions and enrollment process to prospective students and their parents; designing and refining the strategic event calendar for the Center; collaborating with academic departments to connect prospective students to academic experiences; promoting campus visits; seeking out and developing community partner collaborations; participating in recruitment events and visits to both Colorado and out-of-state schools as needed; working with Enrollment Management and University leadership to develop and execute a mission and vision for the Downtown Welcome Center; selling and tracking inventory of CSU Pueblo merchandise.

Specifically, this position will perform the designated tasks above, with an overarching focus on developing programming and activities to drive traffic to the Downtown Welcome Center and optimize the visitor experience.

Position will likely work Tuesday-Saturday (8am-5pm). The office location will be at the Downtown Convention Center and requires an in-office presence. This position is not eligible for remote work.

This position is funded by Vision 2028 through fiscal year 2024. Renewal of position funding is contingent upon continued funding of the project, budgetary approvals, and university fiscal sustainability.

Primary Duties

  • Recruitment and Outreach
    Provides regular staffing presence at the Downtown Welcome Center. Greets and engages visitors with a highly knowledgeable and helpful personal touch. Encourages prospective student application and campus visits. Maintains recruitment materials and personal knowledge of Admissions processes, policies, and University programs

    Plans and executes special events, promotions, collaborations, visits, and Center participation in existing nearby events and programs. Attends regular Admissions team meetings and recruitment events on campus as needed.

    Coordinates schedules to ensure hours of operation has coverage, including work study schedules and/or additional CSUP staff, particularly for larger event management when needed.

    Coordinates with the CSU Pueblo Marketing and Communication Department to ensure accurate/correct branding and marketing materials are available on site. Supports event management with MCCR for event support both for specific university and community events.
  • Community Relations
    Interacts with nearby businesses and community leaders, in coordination with the Offices of Advancement and Admissions. Seeks new partnerships and ways to collaborate to improve traffic to and community engagement with the Center.
  • Welcome Center Management
    Oversees upkeep of Welcome Center materials, décor, inventory, cleanliness and outdoor displays. Shares knowledge with visitors about CSU Pueblo and the Pueblo community at large – including knowledge of Convention Center policy and procedures.
  • Retail Sales
    Sells CSU Pueblo merchandise to visitors to the Center as an Auxiliary Satellite location. Maintains knowledge and function of credit card machine. Tracks inventory and makes orders as needed. Coordinates with Director of Auxiliary Services to ensure accurate reporting of this inventory.
  • Data and Reporting
    Collects and reports regularly on data updates regarding visits to the center, events, groups, merchandise sales, campus visits scheduled, and collects demographic/geographic as well as qualitative data on visitors (tourists), and potential students visiting the center, questions asked, trends, and general reception and function of the Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in event planning and/or community outreach
  • Experience in front-facing community positions
  • Experience working independently
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge of CSU Pueblo programs
  • Knowledge of sales and recruitment strategies
  • Knowledge of the southern Colorado community
  • Knowledge of Pueblo and local business
  • Comfortable with public speaking to small and large groups
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Upbeat, personable, and positive mindset in interactions with new people and general public
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience working with diverse populations
