Job description
This position is for an Operations Controller of multiple recycling locations. The incumbent will act in the role of a financial business partner with the Director and Regional Controller, performing complex business analysis, evaluating detailed pro-forma’s, assisting with bid creation/submittals, analyzing contracts and productivity optimization, managing acquisition/divesture due diligence and the integration or disposal process, responsible for completion of region annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Primary duty is to support the Regional Controller and location (branch) Managers by providing essential information and analysis that allows the Managers to make good business decisions that match up with corporate goals and objectives.Key Responsibilities:
Review, analyze and approve financial statements
Review and approve backup journal entries that affect each branch operations.
Verify all changes are completed and submitted by due dates from various operations managers and coordinate with Regional Operational Controller
Provide verbal or written explanations for moderate-large variances from base line plan accounts payable and account receivable.
Ensure direct communication with operational manager to ensure proper/correct coding for accuracy and provide training, as required.
Ensure through direct communication with operational managers/staff that invoices are accrued per corporate policy and provide training as necessary
Review cost from general ledger to detail
Ensure capital requisitions are generated correctly and provide training as needed
Identify recurring issues and provide training as needed Budgeting/Forecasting
Responsible for ensuring the completion of budgets and forecasts in accordance with the corporate deadlines
Responsible for re-budgeting or forecasting for new acquisitions
Track and determine financial status by analyzing actual results in comparison with budget / forecasts
Support with preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting requirements
Support preparation of budgets and forecasts of monthly, quarterly and yearly
Finalize financial reporting deliverables for month and quarter end
Provide variance analysis on a monthly / quarterly basis in accordance with head office deadlines
Review operational statistics and report KPl's in accordance with pre-set timelines
Lead and support delivery of assigned projects
Qualification & Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant) and would be an asset
Must have 5+ years senior level experience of month-end close, full cycle accounting & financial planning & analysis
Must have 5+ years of Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
Strong attention to detail, and ability to flow through financial transactions
Able to support closure on a tight schedule and provide timely analysis of results
Must possess a desire to effect change and make a difference in the organization
Able to generate superior financial information (including budgeting and forecasting)
Handle ambiguity and excel in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
Superior communication and teamwork skills
Excellent computer skills covering ERP, operational and Microsoft office system
knowledge of Great Plains and Cognos, A background in waste / commodity would be an asset
Primarily in an office environment, some travel may be required from time to time at various company locations
Some periodic weekend or evening work is expected during busy seasons
