Expected Areas of Competence
The candidate will support in the management of alliances of significant strategic importance and complexity, and independently manage alliances of moderate complexity. Under the guidance of Global Alliance leadership, the candidate will interface with internal and external partner leadership to ensure strategic and execution alignment for alliances, including leading or supporting governance meetings, consensus building, and dispute resolution. The candidate will play a key strategic role in the successful management and oversight of BMS external alliances, engaging in joint operational and collaboration decisions with all stakeholders.

Key activities
- With oversight from the manager, lead and oversee a portfolio of external alliances (e.g., active collaborations with a meaningful impact on the BMS portfolio across TAs/DAs and/or pipeline goals, the potential to be integrated into the internal pipeline); potential to support manager or other senior Global Alliance leaders on Tier 1 (high complexity) alliances.
- Responsibilities include leading meetings for all joint working groups, and joint governance committees, establishing collaboration goals, and leading consensus building and dispute resolution.
- Map out and execute relationship management strategy with input from BMS Global Alliance leadership, oversee and approve supplementary contracting and documentation, and develop thorough understanding and monitoring of contracts, work/research plans, etc.
- Meaningfully contribute to strategies for external alliances and engage in joint operational and collaboration decisions with alliances.
- Lead, with input from Legal and BD, amendments, minor re-negotiations, extensions, and terminations of existing collaborations.
- Serve as the main BMS point of contact for external alliance counterpart(s), including external partner senior leadership.
- Travel to partner sites to maintain relationships and manage in-person interactions with external stakeholders.
- Attend various external industry and Alliance Management conferences on behalf of BMS.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of pharmaceutical industry experience with adept scientific knowledge and a track record of managing third parties at various service levels.
- Highly effective at building relationships and leading by influence.
- Strong communication skills with an ability to succinctly summarize and explain complex situations, decisions, options, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and exercise diplomacy at a high level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. or MBA or equivalent preferred.
- Alliance Management or related skills preferred.
- Experience and comfort with contractual and legal terms.
- High level of business acumen.
