Job Description
Web Specialist II (WS) is the key resource for all web-related tech. From a web communications lens, they are responsible for focusing web communications and expanding outreach through implementation of websites that feature innovative designs, leading-edge web tech & clear and cohesive content. Working closely with SE communications team, they are responsible for managing/coordinating all divisional web content. The WS takes the lead in maintaining content that meets university standards for branding & accessibility. The WS uses existing & new web platforms to develop & deploy web solutions that meet the functional needs of both students & the departments. This includes custom web application coding, building & deploying web solutions built on frameworks like Office 365 and acting as an administrator of those systems. The WS is the primary tech contact for business process management, assessing business need & using web technology to design & implement workflow-driven solutions tied to operations. The WS provides technical support & trains staff /student orgs on tools and tech used in maintaining web content. The WS acts as the primary liaison between the SE and other units on campus as it pertains to web tech. They participate and take a lead role in representing SE interests in university-wide committees/groups.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field is required.
- Minimum five (5) years’ work experience in web information and page design and web content
- management required.
- Expert level knowledge of web content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Drupal, SharePoint).
- Advanced level knowledge of complex layout technologies (CSS) and responsive design.
- Significant development experience with web-based technologies (e.g. JavaScript, Java, PHP, SQL), libraries (e.g. jQuery) and frameworks.
- Intermediate understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices (e.g. ARIA).
- Experience with web-based process management and workflow solutions highly desirable.
- Certification in web content management, user experience design, or any related skills is a plus.
Job Specific Qualifications
- Proven ability to assess business needs and then conceptualize, develop and manage complex web projects and solutions.
- Up to date with the latest web design, accessibility and digital content management techniques and technologies including but not limited to items such as CMS theme development, responsive design, SEO/Analytics, WCAG, etc.
- Experience with WordPress or similar template-based web content management system of equivalent sophistication.
- Demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS and JavaScript with jQuery, PHP and SQL preferred.
- Proficiency with website design tools, interaction design applications and photo editors (e.g. Photoshop).
- Commitment to exemplary customer service; strong customer service skills including rapid response time, appropriate and timely escalation and incident resolution, and appropriate follow-up skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and independently manage a changing workload and schedule.
Responsibilities
- Using innovative web designs and leading-edge technology, create and maintain the web infrastructure required to address the communications needs of the Student Experience.
- Lead the division’s efforts at developing web-based business process management solutions to improve the efficiency of operational tasks in the division. Work with the entire organization to understand the flow of data among our units and design workflow and processes that allow us to operate more effectively.
- Develop, deploy and support web applications and systems that address business and communications needs of students and the division.
- Provide technical support for all web-related technology in use within SE including content management tools, form and workflow tools and collaboration platforms like Teams and SharePoint.
- Assure compliance of divisional websites with university standards for branding. Take a lead role in testing both university websites and purchased applications for compliance with web accessibility standards.
