Summary:
Responsibilities:
- Ability to transfer patients within the hospital environment and assist with bed mobility .
- A ble to troubleshoot and maintain all office equipment and load paper.
- S orts and distributes incoming mail.
- O rders supplies for the department including patient room phones and consistently strives to keep work areas neat, clean and clutter free.
- A cts as a receptionist, sets a positive unit tone and uses good customer service skills.
- F ollows all hospital and HIPPA rules.
- A nswers telephones efficiently and courteously documenting/relaying message to staff, physicians, families, etc.
- A ssists with physician pages and notifies physicians of consults.
- A ssists patient, family, staff, and physician inquiries or refers to appropriate source.
- A ssist with self scheduling and is flexible when necessary.
- A ssists with all codes as needed.
- E fficiently handles work flow processes and paperwork including:
- Distributing orders to pharmacy, dietary, radiology, etc.
- Schedules and obtains diagnosis testing results from dietary, lab, radiology, etc.
- Assists in the admitting, discharge and transfer of patients ensuring accuracy of paperwork.
- Thins charts as needed; copies/faxes charts as required and files information on patient chart.
- Able to run required cardiac monitor strips and mount in appropriate charts.
- Competent in performing order entry; results inquiry; and patient location, obtaining corresponding printouts when needed.
- Document chartable activities in computer.
- F ollow and maintain isolation procedures, especially chemo precautions and radium implant precautions.
- I n working with patients:
- Assist with all aspects of ADL's.
- Take temperatures, pulse, respirations, B/P's, and measure and document I & O's.
- Feed patients and give them between meal fluids and nourishments.
- Answer call lights in a timely and courteous manner.
- Utilize safety restraints and assistive devices appropriately.
- Obtain and record patient weights: standing, bedscale, and wheelchair.
- M ust attend 50% of unit secretary meetings and must attend unit meetings as often as possible.
- P erforms downtime procedures.
- R eports changes in patients' condition to the professional nurse.
- F ollow the interdisciplinary plan of care developed by the professional nurse.
- R estock supplies in patients' rooms.
- M ake beds, occupied or unoccupied.
