Primary Function
To setup, construct, repair and maintain special machine parts, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, instruments, molds and dies.
General Quality Responsibilities
All employees are responsible for the quality of their work. If quality standards or expectations cannot be met, the employee responsible for the work is required to notify the supervisor of that area immediately.

- Specialized assembly tools (based on component needs)
- Proper PPE (gloves, sleeves, safety glasses) anything else deemed necessary
- Material handling equipment (racks, carts, lifts, rollers)
- Standard and/or special machines in the Tool Room.
Essential Functions
- Must be able to use advance shop mathematics, read highly complicated drawings, use a variety of measuring devices and a broad use of specialized training.
- Over 4 years.
- Requires the ability to plan and perform unusual and difficult work where only general methods are available, and the making of decisions involving the use of considerable judgment and initiative.
- Requires continuous lifting of material weighing from 5-35 lbs., or frequent lifting of material weighing from 35-60 lbs.
- Requires continual attention of a normal degree, or concentrated attention for brief periods.
- Probable damage would exceed $2000, but seldom over $5000
- Requires considerable care at least 25% of the work day to prevent lost time injuries to others such as hernia, fractures, serious burns, etc...
- Requires intermittent, but regular, instruction of other people, or assigning and coordinating their work.
- Normal shop conditions. some disagreeable elements present, but not the extent of being objectionable to the normal industrial employee.
- Accident hazard is high, with exposure at least 25% of the work day to partial disability accidents such as loss of hand, arm, or leg, partial loss of sight, etc...

Working Procedure
- Gets job assignment from supervisor
- Works from tooling prints, blueprints and broad general instructions where details must be determined from drawings, production parts, or product drawings involving considerable tool development and experimental work.
- Visualizes the finished job, makes necessary mathematical calculations and determines the allowance for metal flow-spring, shrinkage, fit, etc.
- Develops, constructs and repairs a variety of intricate tools, dies, gauges, machinery, jigs, fixtures, and assembly fixtures used in the manufacturing process.
- Recognizes and reports to supervisor design errors that would interfere with producing or checking parts or equipment.
- Performs bench and machine operation of all types involving a variety of unusual and complex setups and machining methods, and highly skilled assembly operations.
- Works to and maintains extremely close tolerances using a wide variety of precision measuring instruments, makes decisions as to clearances, mechanism details, and the development of form and contours - adjusting or altering as necessary to make tools and dies perform and function correctly, including air, electric, or hydraulic devices.
- Diagnose and detect faulty operations or defective material and take corrective action
- Applies heat treatment to ferrous materials of any shape, requiring a general knowledge of physical properties of materials, critical temperatures, various techniques, of heat treating, drawing, tempering, annealing, and the application of various quenching techniques and mediums, setup and operate arc and torch welding equipment requiring general knowledge of welding techniques and procedures.
