At the Blind Center/ENCight Gardens, we believe that everyone deserves access to healthy and nutritious food. That's why we've created a unique program combining community gardens, fresh foods, education, hands-on learning, and community building to help individuals with visual impairments and the community lead healthier lives. We are a 40-year-old agency deeply dedicated to improving the health, well-being, and inclusivity of those living with vision impairment in eastern North Carolina. Our in-town campus includes classrooms and residences. Our county location has acres of lush countryside, which are currently being developed into a community garden to address food surety issues, health, wellness, and legacy fine crafts, which our community has been part of for decades.
Member Duties : The Program Developer will work with our team to develop programs and develop recipes, meal planning and preparation, and nutrition education. You will also create engaging and interactive workshops and events. The ideal candidate for this position will have strong culinary skills, a desire to learn, health and nutrition knowledge, and a passion for helping others. You should be comfortable or open to learning about developing and publishing (in-house/online) educational programming material, and have excellent communication and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable creating videos, social media posts, and presentations to promote our program. Experience with community outreach is desirable. Willingness to publish a cookbook in conjunction with the Blind Center, showcasing our program's farm-to-table practices, curriculum, and recipes highlighting the potential for individuals with visual impairments to lead independent and fulfilling lives is key.
