Job Summary

The Audio 2 (A2) Crew Member will support the sound department for A.R.T.’s production of Evita. This is a deck position working primarily with the wireless microphones for the cast and for band support. This is a variable schedule position.

Position Description

Support Artistic Vision and Goals:
  • Collaborate with the Sound Designer, Sound Engineer, and other sound department personnel to implement the sound design for Evita.
  • Work with the sound department to ensure the proper set up and operation of the sound system, including wireless microphones, speakers, and other audio equipment.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with the sound system in real time during the run of the show.
  • Assist with the customization of the sound system and equipment to meet the specific needs of each production as required.
  • Support the sound board operator during performances, including assisting with mixing and adjusting levels for live performers and sound effects.
  • Manage and maintain wireless microphones, including battery changes, frequency coordination, and troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with cast members to ensure proper use of wireless microphones and address any issues or concerns they may have.
  • Work with the band and band support to ensure their audio equipment is properly set up and running.
  • Participate in inventory, inspection, maintenance, and repairs of sound equipment.
  • Participate in warehouse runs and storing of sound department equipment.

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of audio equipment and sound systems used in a theatrical environment.
  • Experience working in a professional theater as an A2 Crew Member or similar position.
  • Familiarity with programming and operating digital audio consoles, as well as other audio equipment including wireless microphones and in-ear monitors.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stage management, other technicians, visiting artists and other collaborators with kindness and clarity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
