As NMBS- SNCB’s IT company, YPTO is part of the Belgian Railway family making sure that the Belgian railways continue to move forward and that train passengers can travel in a modern and sustainable way.

The recently approved NMBS-SNCB « Rail Vision 2040 » has the ambitious goal to make sure that more people, companies & organisations choose the train as their preferred mobility tool. Next to that, in a world of modern and sustainable mobility, new services and applications using digital technology are being implemented. Leading to increased and better information and communication to rail passengers and rail crew. Setting up diverse channels for purchasing tickets, a better monitoring of assets and further increase automating operational processes. Ultimately improving efficiency and service offering.

An ambitious goal that we’re building and realising: further digitalising SNCB – NMBS, offering innovative solutions and enabling flexible services with a key focus on the end user.

The job

As Technical Product Manager (TPDM) you will work within the SPS department, which stands for Sales, Passengers and Security Management.

You will be designated to the Business Area Commercial Channels & Products, which is the IT partner of the NMBS-SNCB Directorate Marketing & Sales. This Business Area manages all sales channels as well as the designated backend and after-sales solutions (Products) of NMBS-SNCB both in Project- as in RUN mode.

We’re talking Mobile App, Ticket Vending Machines, Cash Desks in the Railway stations … basically all sales channels & systems that are in use today allowing travelers to buy tickets & services through a multitude of channels, reaching thousands of travelers.

In your role as TPDM you will have a strong focus on the RUN activities, next to that you:

  • Will act as the primary contact point towards the business where the Commercial Product Manager is located.
  • Have the end-2-end accountability for the non-commercial side of the applications/components assigned to him/her.
  • Collaborate with a wide range of people to identify and define Business needs, understand the Solution Context and develop the Vision, Roadmap and Features required to meet these needs.
  • Are in support of managing the full lifecycle of the assigned applications/components from the ideation phase until they are in production as well as to take them out of production when replaced by new technology or obsolete
    • He/she manages the financial topics
    • This covers support activities, new features, enhancements
    • Application, infrastructure and network performance
    • Quality control on both functional & technical aspects
  • Act as an escalation point for incidents, problems and service request within his application portfolio:
    • Takes up ITIL roles where relevant - Problem mgt P3/P4
    • Supportive role during major incidents
    • Performs monitoring activities in a reactive way
    • Detects & defines monitoring improvements leading to new KPIs
    • Creates and ensures knowledge management of his application portfolio including processes and relevant data flows.
    • Ensures industrialization (setup + outsource) of the newly defined monitoring KPIs
    • Ensures correct dimensioning of the network & infrastructure components to cover the required current & future needs
  • Have full cost ownership of the assigned application portfolio (OPEX RUN) – CAPEX is managed by the Project Manager (PJM).
  • Create & comment monthly reporting reflecting application, infrastructure, network & cost.


Your hard skills:

  • Experience in Public Transport Sector is a big plus
  • Minimum relevant working experience of 5 years
  • You have a technical background allowing you to manage the technology lifecycle of your product
  • Innovation driven – pro-active look in to the market what technologies are available, what the competition is doing etc.
  • Roadmap: Create/maintain a Strategic roadmap for each of the to you assigned components
  • You are fluent in Dutch or French, and have a proficient knowledge of English
