TAX ANALYST
The Tax Analyst role provides support to the Tax Director with respect to income and sales tax accounting, use tax accounting, lubricating oil excise tax compliance requirements, US income and sales tax compliance requirements, property tax, and ongoing special projects.
This is a professional role, and the ideal candidate must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with minimal supervision. Organizational and effective communication skills are a must.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Tax Director alongside outside tax preparer to compile required data to complete and file federal and state income, franchise, and excise tax returns
- Assist with the coordination, preparation, and review of income tax provision calculations, including internal data compilation
- Communicate with various shareholders, as requested and/or required, regarding their needs as it relates to federal and/or state income tax returns, related forms, and other requests shareholders may have (as it relates to income tax matters)
- Under the supervision of the Tax Director, prepare various tax returns, including sales tax, use tax, lubricating excise tax, property tax, and gross receipts tax
- Processes tax payments via accounts payable, state websites, and other electronic and paper check methods as needed and requested by Tax Director
- Researches, analyzes, and communicates to Tax Director status of nexus with existing and potential jurisdictions
- Reconciles, or assists general ledger accountant(s) in reconciliation of, various general ledger accounts related to tax accruals
- Communicates with existing jurisdictions as needed; responding to and resolving notices and measuring risk mitigation
- Works with accounting and other staff to determine optimal method(s) for measuring and monitoring use taxes
- Assists Tax Director with tax audits as needed
- Works with the legal department and various company locations to ensure that all necessary licensing and permits are obtained and current
- Special projects as assigned by the VP of Finance
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 3 to 5 years in income, sales, property, or other related tax work
- Experience with multi-state partnerships and corporations
- Proficient in Microsoft excel, sales tax software, depreciation software
- Experience with software implementation projects (Vertex, PTMS) a plus
