Position Summary
The first overarching criterion for a successful candidate is the ability to serve students, including underrepresented students. Under the direct supervision of the College Associate Dean, this position assists the College of Education Office of Student Success with admissions and other student in-take processes. The individual in the position will be trained in communicating extensively with prospective college credential students during the application and admissions process. They will also also support the OSS advisors and are the first point of contact for students who request information in person and virtually-answering questions or referring the students to advisors or other units, using well-established policies and guidelines. Other duties include assisting with staffing the front desk and helping OSS visitors and representing OSS at student recruitment events on and off campus. Under guidance from the College Assistant Dean, they will be trained to review student records and determine eligibility for education-based scholarships.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The College of Education prepares skilled personnel for positions in teaching, administration, counseling, and other roles in Pre-K-12 schools, community colleges/postsecondary education, public agencies, child care settings, community agencies, and the entrepreneurial sector. We serve urban, suburban, and rural communities richly diverse in culture, language, and ability/disability through partnerships designed to improve life outcomes of children, youth, adults, and their families. The College has one school, the School of Teacher Education, and six departments—Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education; Child and Family Development; Counseling and School Psychology; Dual Language & English Learner Education; Educational Leadership; and Special Education. There are 79 tenured/tenure-track faculty, more than 300 lecturers, and 36 full-time staff. We serve over 2,200 full-time equivalent matriculated undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral students.
College programs are accredited by national accrediting organizations in teacher education, school psychology, marriage and family therapy, and rehabilitation counseling. All programs providing credentials for school professionals are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Office of Student Success (OSS) serves as the College’s “one-stop shop” for marketing, recruitment, advising on education and related positions, financial aid, and credential admissions, advising and evaluation.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

- Expertise or experience with anti-racist and anti-bias practices that can support the well-being of our students.
- Ability to design programs and workshops that support diverse students and foster an inclusive environment regardless of students’ races, ethnicities, cultures, social classes, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, linguistic identities, body identities, religious or secular beliefs, spiritual traditions, creeds, political views, ages, abilities, and citizenship.
- Ability to establish work priorities and complete projects independently and to create good will and solve problems via tactful collaboration.
- Ability to listen carefully and respond thoughtfully, perceptively, and with compassion.
- Ability to effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts, including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience working at a front desk.
- Experience working with Academic Advisors.
- Experience working with students in higher education.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,764 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,764 - $4,604 per month.
