Summary of Position:

The Sterilization Technician for Dr. Koterwas Orthodontics is responsible for keeping the equipment and areas that work is performed on patients in compliance with all occupational health and safety guidelines by conducting thorough cleaning and sterilization of all appliances and working equipment in the practice.

Essential Job Function:

  • Sets up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines, which includes decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, wrapping and packaging complex sets of instruments for sterilization.
  • Stocks supplies and replenishes sterilization area.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Keeps sterilization area in superior condition meeting OSHA standards with 100% accuracy.
  • Disposes of hazardous waste according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Helps set up treatment trays for debands, lingual retainers, adjustments and bondings.
  • Anticipates the needs of the patient load by reviewing schedule and having trays prepared.
  • Disinfects chairs, treatment carts, impression trays/materials, retractors and other items between patients.
  • Performs duties within OSHA, HIPAA, healthcare, and orthodontic regulations

Overall responsibilities:

  • Keep up with the instruments throughout the day so the autoclave is not packed at the end of the morning or afternoon
  • Make sure all sink counters are always clean, no lab books, MARA containers, instruments, cement boxes, bands boxes, etc. (please make sure all items are returned to their appropriate place)
  • Help assistants with anything they need

  • Knowledge of Orthodontics and associated treatment appliances and equipment used;

  • Travel to both our California, MD and Prince Frederick, MD locations

Education and Experience

  • High-School Diploma Required
  • 1-3 Years dental or orthodontic experience preferred
  • Radiology certification preferred
  • Direct patient care experience preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.25 - $18.00 per hour
