TITLE: STEM/IT Technology Director

PERFORMANCE

SUPERVISES: Part-Time Staff, Interns, Volunteers within Unit

FLSA STATUS:  Exempt  Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Oversees the development, planning, and maintenance of a sound and effective STEM/Technology program which responds to the needs of the membership. Directs and manages overall daily operations of the Technology Center, supervises and maintains a safe, well-organized environment conducive to learning in the Technology Center, while providing hands-on experiential technology learning opportunities for Club Members ages 5-18yrs. Assisting in the daily operations of the Organizations technology: equipment, software, programming, security, working closely with contractual IT companies for maintenance. Under the supervision of the Director of Programs and Unit Director(s) the STEM/IT Technology Director provides leadership, support, guidance and development to youth development professionals (YDP) that will assist them in delivering programs in the core area(s). Completion of direct and indirect reports in timely fashion. Reporting and updating grants related to the core area(s). Maintain relationships with schools, community groups or organizations and volunteers.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

  • To ensure the integrity of the Club’s Mission and its policies as determined by the Board of Directors and communicated through your supervisor.
  • To promote and maintain an effective guidance program through an environment conducive to socially acceptable standards of behavior and growth for all individual members.
  • Responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of a variety of programs and curriculum involving various technological concepts;
  • Facilitate events and activities outside of standard programming to enhance Members knowledge, understanding and skill in Technology (e.g., guest speakers, field trips, special events, etc.);
  • Ensure quality standards and improvements through coaching and mentoring of club staff and volunteers; monitoring and evaluation or program achievements against target goals, resulting in recommending modifications that meet member needs and interests;
  • Responsible for classroom management, to ensure safety standards are met;
  • Develop and sustain positive working relationships with community partners (i.e., schools, other youth organizations, businesses, etc.);
  • Engage with Members and encourage participation;
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment in good condition to ensure safety standards are met;
  • Assist with the management of grants related to STEM/Technology
  • Ensure members have the opportunity to design projects and express themselves creatively utilizing technology in a learner-centered environment;
  • Provide training for other Technology Instructors;
  • Coordinate and implement ongoing computer software training for Boys & Girls Club members;
  • Participate in administrative duties including, but are not limited to, tracking documentation of members in the classes, administering questionnaires and other documentation required by grants;
  • Stay familiar with current BGCA curriculum and program offerings;
  • Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluation activities;
  • Facilitate events and activities outside of standard programming to enhance Members knowledge, understanding and skill in Technology (e.g., Design Festivals/competitions, guest speakers, field trips, Technology Clubs, special events, etc.); and
  • Recruit and manage YDP staff and volunteers that help with the dissemination of information in the core area.
  • Provide and maintain an effective staff supervision, training, performance review and documentation process.
  • To maintain the timely execution of administrative and management requirements specific to this core service area(s).

Resource Management

  • To furnish on request budgeting needs and information for this specific core service area(s).
  • To comply with periodic reporting of essential and requested statistical, evaluative and other forms of information.

Partnership Development

  • Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To plan, initiate and coordinate, supervise and evaluate STEM/Technology programs based on the developmental needs of the youth.
  • Work with staff on special events to carry out programs in all departments.
  • Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  • Assist other Boys & Girls Club staff members, as may be requested from time to time, in meeting the overall needs of the organization.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
  • To assist in maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Club.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Attended an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two year’s work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise, and motivate staff.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: physically and mentally able to perform essential functions, possess sufficient physical strength and energies required to effectively engage in activities with children and support and sustain the physical environment.

  • Ability to perform gross and fine motor activities required for daily office work, such as typing, writing, telephone usage, computer keyboards, fax machine buttons, etc.
  • Ability to work in a professional environment and positively represent organization under various levels of stress.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Visual acuity for accurate reading, typing, filing and use of computer screen.
  • Ability to work at a rapid pace, with frequent interruptions and changes in plans or deadlines may occur.
  • Hearing needed for purposes of business-related communications, etc.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste; work where chemicals are used for cleaning; work where environmental dust, mist, and/or steam are occasionally present.
  • Must have satisfactory driving record, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and liability insurance for operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties of position and to be covered under company insurance the requirement is for the employee to be a minimum of age 21.
  • Must be able to pass any and all required background screens and drug screens at any time of employment.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
