POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Associate Youth Director, the Senior Sports & Youth Director is responsible for leading and developing assigned Youth Programs and Youth Directors. They must run the program with safety in the forefront. The Senior Sports & Youth Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Contributes to and supervise the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Youth Department activities and programs.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Supports the overall vision for youth, branch and association initiatives.
  • Directs, organizes, oversees and promotes high quality and engaging programming for assigned youth programs, with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.
  • Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in assigned programs based on Association Program Guidelines, which include daily program schedule and staff schedules.
  • Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.
  • Responsible for the development and management of all aspects of program budgets and resources.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch effectively.
  • Recruits and hires diverse full time and part-time staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Onboards and develops them for success.
  • Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff according to the YMCA of the Triangle requirements.
  • Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including youth, branch, and any assigned association team meetings.
  • Provide leadership to the YMCA Annual Campaign through development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
  • Fulfills department/branch obligations as required by supervisor/Branch Director i.e. “on-call” weekends, large youth events, trainings, etc.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule, including some evening and weekends as needed
  • Direct Program Oversight:
    • Direct and organize all aspects of two off-site Y Learning locations
    • Direct and organize all aspects of Meadowmont Day Camp
    • Direct and organize all aspects of Homeschool “Team Time” program
    • Lead and coach the full-time Sports Director
    • Lead and coach the full-time Youth Director (Y Learning)
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/or 2-3 years of related experience.
  • Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in program and personnel development.
  • Ability to effectively manage staff and programs.
  • Exceptional oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
  • Possess a high level of organization, ability to prioritize and possess the capacity to respond and handle multiple tasks appropriately in a dynamic and fast paced work environment.
  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational, analytical and project management skills.
  • Capacity to assist in the management of facilities, equipment, and programs.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.

  • CPR, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications and a commercial Driver’s License, with “P” endorsement, in order to drive a YMCA bus as needed.
