The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a Mechanic. This position, under direction, performs skilled mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance work on automotive, heavy trucks and heavy machinery. This position will primarily be assigned to the Solid Waste Division and will routinely assist the Fleet Division.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnose, adjust, repair, and service diesel and gasoline engines, disc and hydraulic brake systems, power trains, fuel and fuel injection systems, two speed axles, multi-speed transmissions, hydraulic, air, vacuum, and electrical controls, systems, and components, suspension steering systems, and power plants including small single cylinder engines to multi-cylinder engines, cooling systems, lubrication systems, intake and exhaust systems, and other vehicle and equipment systems and specialized tools and equipment.
Repair, overhaul, and maintain specialized equipment; weld, fabricate, and perform metalworking of special equipment, attachments, and components of equipment, vehicles, and containers.
Operate various types of shop equipment, machinery, precision instruments, and specialized tools including micrometers, dial gauges, power saws, grinders, drill presses, vacuum and psi gauges, and computer diagnostic equipment.
Requisition and maintain inventory of parts and materials.
Maintain cleanliness of work area and tools.
Ability to maintain and foster a positive working environment.
Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
Available for shift work, on call, stand-by, and emergency call.

QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying):

Two years of experience in automotive, power, or industrial equipment repair.
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in automotive mechanics.
Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 6 months.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment):
Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, climb, push, pull, and lift 75 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, dust and mechanical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
