Position Summary Information

General Information
The Health Education Design Group ( HEDG ) is seeking a part-time Software Engineer to join our team. This individual will play a critical role in the uploading, management, and support of our e-learning platform hosted on grant partner sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in JavaScript, LMS administration, and backend web development.

HEDG is a part of JMU’s Institute for Innovation in Health & Human Services ( IIHHS ). Duties and Responsibilities
Course Development & Quality Assurance
  • Collaborate with Instructional Designers to review and QA Articulate Storyline files, ensuring error-free navigation, video embedding, and overall functionality.
  • Implement custom JavaScript completion functions and additional Articulate supplemental features.
  • Improve upon and document processes and procedures for this position.
  • Perform maintenance tasks as needed, including preventative maintenance.
  • Manage file storage and backups for archive.
  • Liaise with key partners to ensure functionality of all Articulate features, and connection to Career Compass.
  • Conduct thorough module testing to ensure alignment with instructional design objectives.


Data Management & Backups
  • Archive all course assets, maintain a directory file identifier, and update the Master Module List Spreadsheet.
  • Back up all external content, uploading to the e-learning platform on Amazon S3 under the designated module number folder.

Technical Support & Maintenance
  • Respond to user support tickets and troubleshoot issues in collaboration with partner staff.
  • Repair broken links, replace/re-upload damaged content, and ensure LMS/browser compatibility.

Reporting & Analytics
  • Generate user data reports, including user numbers, completion statistics, and other requested information.

Qualifications
  • Proficient in JavaScript, and backend web development.
  • Prior experience or familiarity with LMS administration and e-learning module development.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Condition(s) of Employment
This is a part-time wage position working up to 29 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
