Our Newest Opportunity:
The Regional Director manages the in-house compliance team members and prioritizes actions to ensure staff and clients are up to date with benefit legislative activity. The Director has oversight for developing and maintaining health and welfare benefit compliance resources, communications, and programs for our clients and staff. The Director uses extensive research skills and organizational abilities to monitor federal regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA and Medicare, as well as state regulatory actions. This position is part of the Compliance team located in North Bethesda, MD, with the ability to work remotely 3 days/week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Manage in-house compliance team members and direct team activity;
- Research and respond to regional staff members to resolve compliance issues;
- Work directly with regional clients to resolve complex compliance issues;
- Assist clients with ERISA plan documentation and reporting requirements;
- Ensure updated benefit notices and other annual requirements are distributed with instructions to staff and clients;
- Research, understand, and communicate IRS benefit-related tax codes, including cafeteria plans, self-insured plans, domestic partner taxation, life insurance imputed income and nondiscrimination testing for all benefit plans;
- Intake client information and review policies and procedures to create compliance assessment reports;
- Create and update instructional guides, compliance calendars, and other client-facing educational material;
- Draft newsletters and other formal communication pieces;
- Prepare and conduct educational webinars for client HR staff, including HIPAA Privacy;
- Prepare and conduct educational webinars directly to client employees, including Medicare;
- Prepare and conduct internal training programs;
- Oversee Zywave client portal and Learning Management System (LMS) for North Bethesda clients;
- Oversee FT William Form 5500, Plan Document, and Form 1095 preparation for North Bethesda clients;
- Vet service vendors and manage external vendor contracts, including Zywave and FT William;
- Prepare and conduct Fridays with Compliance calls for regional staff;
- Provide RFP responses for compliance-related proposal questions;
- Attend team meetings, staff meetings, client meetings, and educational seminars;
- Present compliance team capabilities and customized action steps to prospective clients;
- Present compliance team capabilities to new staff and company acquisitions; and
- Respond to requests and report team activity to office and regional leadership upon request.
Qualifications, Skills and Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to visual aesthetic of work product;
- Superior research skills with attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects;
- Resourceful and self-motivated with ability to take direction and work well in a collaborative environment;
- Ability to present information to internal and external audiences;
- Prior experience with research and organization surrounding federal laws; and
- Strong aptitude for systems and software including advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite.
Education, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Valid life and health Insurance license required, within 60 days of employment
- 10+ years of employee benefits, insurance, regulatory paralegal, or compliance support experience
- Extensive experience with Checkpoint/EBIA reference tool and ability to use FT William and Zywave
- Experience at carrier, broker, or third-party administrator preferred
