Why does the job exist?
This position oversees the Safe and Healthy Schools Bureau's coordinated school health initiatives reflective of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Approach. This position sets the goals and objectives for staff that align to federal grant objectives, legislative mandates, agency vision and mission, and applicable federal rules and state statutes specific to student health and wellness.

How does it get done?
This position provides leadership on federal continuation applications, legislative funding, New Mexico administrative codes, and state and federal rules and statutes resulting in fiscal support, programmatic support, technical assistance, and "best practices" professional development to school districts, state charters, and other school health advocates with prescribed local and state level health and safety performance measures. Staff, contractual, and budget oversight is an essential expectation of this position.
Who are the customers?
The Safe and Healthy Schools Bureau Director's scope of work supports local education agencies, support-service state and non- state agencies, teachers, school nurses, counselors, auxiliary staff, students, and families.
Ideal Candidate
1. An advanced degree in education with an emphasis in educational leadership and/or a PED administrative license.
2. Applicable experience in school-based health education, health services and/or coordinated school health program oversight, implementation, and evaluation.
3. Experience in writing and monitoring federal grants
4. Five years or more supervisory experience preferred
5. Working knowledge of monitoring state government and federally-funded budgets
Minimum Qualification
A Master's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
