Job Description:
Description: The RN PRN - Women & Children assesses, plans, directs, implements, and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures. The RN PRN – Women & Children will also be responsible for directing patient care for licensed and ancillary staff.
Typical Duties:
- Plans, assesses, directs, implements, and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration, and discharge planning. Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures.
- Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate.
- Performs complete data collection from patient with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaints, and pertinent history.
- Supports the culture of quality with delivery of quality nursing care utilizing evidence-based practice to decrease the potential for infection, harm, or injury working with the interdisciplinary team.
- Actively participates in the performance improvement processes related to nursing practice.
- Communicates with patients and/or families using available resources and tools to provide age appropriate, patient preferred language to include demonstrated fluency and timely completion of all documentation requirements.
- Responsible to assist students in all disciplines to develop skills and an understanding of collaborative values, attitudes, and ideals in the care of patients and families.
- Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with hospital policies and EMTALA regulations, as applicable.
- Performs Preoperative and Phase II Recovery when assigned to Antepartum/Gyn., Ob Triage, and Labor and Delivery.
- May perform the role of the circulating nurse for a Cesarean Section and minor gynecology procedures if assigned to OB Triage and Labor and Delivery.
- May perform Phase 1 postoperative recovery care if assigned to OB Triage and Labor and Delivery.
- May provide intensive care to neonatal patients including all methods of respiratory support if in Neonatal Intensive Care.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate’s Degree from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- 6 months work experience performing Registered Nurse duties and responsibilities.
- Must be able to work a 12 hour shift; varied, holiday; and/or weekend shifts as scheduled or required. OR
- Associates or higher Degree from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Completion of JPS Nurse Residency Program.
- Must be able to work a 12 hour shift; varied, holiday; and/or weekend shifts as scheduled or required. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
- Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Maintained throughout employment.
- Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Completes Neonatal Education Simulation Methodology (S.T.A.B.L.E.) within 1 year from hire date. Employment for NICU maintains certification throughout employment.
- Completes AAP Neonatal Resuscitation within 3 months of hire date and maintains credentialing throughout employment. Required Specialized Training:
- Must successfully complete, pass, and maintain all applicable and requisite training as established by each department in accordance with the JPS Clinical Job Specific Competency Validation Checklist. Completes the requisite certification and courses within the required timeframes, to include but not limited to:
- Competency-based orientation program within 180 days of employment Antepartum/Gynecology, OB Triage and Labor and Delivery.
- EKG course within 180 days of employment and maintained throughout employment for OB Triage and Labor and Delivery.
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 1 year of hire and maintained throughout employment for Antepartum/OB Triage/Labor Delivery.
- AWHONN Advances Fetal Monitoring within 2 years of completing the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring and maintained every 2 years throughout employment for Antepartum/OB Triage/Labor Delivery.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment for Antepartum/OB Triage/Labor Delivery.
- Competency based orientation program of level 2 neonatal intensive care within 30 days of employment and level 3 & level 4 neonatal intensive care within 120 days of employment for NICU. Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelors or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited Professional School of Nursing. OR
- Associates Nursing Degree from an accredited Professional School of Nursing.
- 4 plus years of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse. Preferred Licensure/Certification:
- National Certification in the area of Nurse Specialty specific to employment and relative to the patient care for Women and Children. Preferred Specialized Training:
- 1 plus years of knowledge and experience using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
