Overview:
Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming, MN is looking for Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Surgical Services team.

Fairview Lakes Medical Center provides award-winning care to the communities northeast of the Twin Cities. We are a Level IV trauma center, providing life-saving treatment to the seriously ill and injured 24 hours a day. Specialty services are available on-site in heart care, cancer care, childbirth, orthopedics, pediatrics and more.


About Lakes Surgical Services (Operating Room, Pre/Postoperative Care & Endoscopy):
  • Serving patients of all ages and cases including general surgery, orthopedic, podiatry, spine, OB/GYN, urology, ENT, ophthalmology and endoscopy.
  • In-house Anesthesia coverage 24 hours a day 7 days of week for services required both in the operating room and other hospital departments as needed.
  • RN staff is experienced in pre/post operative care consistent with ASPAN standards of care. The OR RNs & certified surgical technologist follow AORN standards of care.
  • Averages 7,000 cases a year.
  • 80th percentile ranking for Patient Satisfaction.
  • Endoscopy/GI department has 2 procedure rooms to serve both outpatients and inpatients for colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and EGD procedures.


Schedule:

This OR nursing position will be working 72 hours every two weeks on the rotating day/evening shifts with 8 hur shifts. Schedule requires call shifts one weekday a week and one weekend every 8-10 weeks. (Need to be within 30 minutes)

Responsibilities/Job Description:

As an Operating Room RN you will be responsible for:

  • Assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient populations and for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedure and professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.
  • The RN coordinates care with members care team and delegates responsibilities to others (surgical technologist, nursing assistant, health unit coordinator) as appropriate.
  • Implements protective measures prior to procedure, including measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical and chemical sources.
  • Confirms identity before the operative or invasive procedure and verifies operative procedure, surgical site and laterality.
  • Applies safety devices, performs required counts, manages specimen handling and disposition.
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique while establishing and maintaining sterile fields.
  • Performs skin preparations, monitors for wound contamination, and classifies the surgical wound.
  • Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation.
  • .Facilitate the patients in a 5 suite OR department.
  • Set up, circulate and organize O.R. rooms for a multitude of Surgical Services (Gen, ENT, GYN, URO. Ortho, etc.) and the GI /Endoscopy unit.
  • Supports patients’ rights and ethics by delivering consistent, proficient, and ethical care, within legal standards of practice, while maintaining privacy and support of the patient’s value system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the health system environment and administrative issues that impact job performance, patient safety, and ethical considerations.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • OR registered nurse experience and/or Successful completion of the AORN Peri-op 101 course and/or
  • Clinical Experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist or completion of OR Internship
  • Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
