Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

This position will work in the Spokane area primarily on research projects at the intersection of Native health and harm reduction treatment for substance use disorder.

This position will support research studies involving human research participants. The specific duties will include informing clients, participants and/or members of the public about the study. Explaining study parameters and obtaining informed consent. Screening participants and conducting interviews according to established protocols. Gathering and compiling data; managing participant payments and various types of participant records and protocols. We acknowledge the challenges in conducting community-driven and rigorous research; thus, the duties require creativity, flexibility, teamwork, and experience working in community to build relationships.

Currently, the primary projects on which this person will be assisting include randomized controlled trials of patient-centered and culturally aligned substance use interventions that we have codeveloped with community members with lived experience of substance use disorder and the community-based agencies that serve them. The project leaders and direct supervisors are Dr. Lonnie Nelson (Nursing, Native Health Sciences, IREACH), who specializes in Native health research, and Dr. Susan Collins (Psychology, UW Harm Reduction Research and Treatment - HaRRT Center), who specializes in harm-reduction treatment for substance use disorder.

Required Qualifications:

Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience OR equivalent education/experience.

Additional Requirements:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability with strong written/oral communication and organizational skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team on multiple projects.
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in working with Native communities.
  • Experience working in a research environment.
  • Excellent proofreading skills, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Experience working with internet applications.

Monthly Salary Range: Range 33, $2,764 to $3,650, Step A-M | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. Step M is typically a longevity step.
