Job Summary:
Under the direction of Dr. David Andes, the microbiology researcher will perform experiments focused on antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, phenotypes, and therapy. The research will be carried out using in vitro and animal (mouse) models. The microbiology researcher will be expected to function semi-independently by aiding in designing experiments, developing new research techniques, and troubleshooting experimental obstacles.

Responsibilities:
- 20% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
- 20% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
- 15% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
- 15% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
- 15% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
- 15% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
Tasks:
- Maintaining and conducting in vitro susceptibility experiments with novel antimicrobials
- Conducting and analyzing animal (mouse) infection model pharmacokinetic and treatment outcome studies
- Maintaining and managing research (mouse) colony and facility
- Designing and troubleshooting research methods
- Analyzing drug resistance mechanisms using a variety of molecular and biochemical techniques
- Constructing mutant strains
- Performing microscopy work (scanning electron microscopy and confocal microscopy)
- Maintaining accurate lab records and maintaining lab equipment
- Supervising students
- Presenting at weekly lab meetings
- Preparing manuscripts
- Assisting with grant writing

Education:

Bachelor's Degree
Qualifications:
Three years of relevant research experience in an industry/manufacturing setting is required.
Experience in presentation of data and preparation of manuscripts is preferred.
Experience in microbiology, animal (mouse) models, pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and microscopy is preferred.
License/Certification:
Preferred
AALAS - American Association for Laboratory Animal Science Technician Certification

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
