Remote TSA Safety Technical Editor (DHS Clearance Req.)
Job description
Paragone Solutions, Inc. is looking for a remote technical writer/editor to support our hazard assessment team. This could also be a full-time position for a junior safety engineer that has exceptional written skills and is also willing to assist senior safety engineers conduct on-site hazard assessments at airports nationwide.
VERY EXTENSIVE MS WORD SKILLS ARE REQUIRED, ESPECIALLY THE USE OF STYLE SHEETS, COMPLEX SECTION BREAKS, AND PICTURE FORMATTING WITH A DOCUMENT! MS WORD SKILLS TEST REQUIRED.
Responsibilities:
- Edits technical reports written/drafted by senior safety engineers.
- Ensure pictures and the associated references are clear, concise, and aligned.
- Conduct extensive formatting of very complex MS Word documents ensuring reports are consistently and appropriately formatted.
- Translates technical information into clear, readable documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel.
- Responsible for quality control of technical reports.
- Prepare a formal hazard analysis report for each site or operation assessed summarizing the survey and monitoring data, findings, trends, recommendations, corrective actions, risk assessment, and lessons learned.
- Ensure finished products convey intended messages clearly, accurately, and succinctly reflecting technical SME level of understanding of the subject.
- Conduct technical editor reviews to ensure consistency of expression, logical organization and development, readability, and conformity of grammar and style to publication standards.
- Coordinate changes with assessors, providing editorial advice and guidance, and assist in verifying facts and content when necessary or directed.
- The technical reports will be summarizing hazard assessments. Basic knowledge/understanding of the following concepts is preferred:
- Chemistry, acids, bases and solvents, flammable liquids, gases, cryogenics.
- Hazardous materials and hazardous wastes classification, storage, and disposal.
- Fire triangle, properties of combustion, flammability, a basic understanding of Fire Protection Engineering (i.e., sprinkler density, Heat detection, water hydrology basics only, basics of PIV, FDC, Risers, Inspectors Valve), extinguisher types and systems, building construction, occupancy ratings.
- Facility and Building - basic understanding of facilities and building operations, HVAC, some construction, and contractor experience useful.
- Familiarity with general aviation principles.
- Experience in and knowledge of TSA Regulations
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, technical communications, or equivalent experience
- Two to five years of recent experience in the writing of technical documents
- Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Office and solid skills with MS Suite
- Expert knowledge of the English language, including grammar punctuation and spelling
