QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: B.S. Degree in Recreation Therapy or related field with experience working with the geriatric population is desired.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Document progress notes, quarterly reviews, MDS, individual attendance records and
other caseload responsibilities.
- Assess residents’ status and interests to determine an appropriate recreation therapy care plan.
- Participate in resident interdisciplinary conferences, departmental meetings and educational opportunities.
- Develop and implement treatments, leisure education, and general recreation activities.
- Order and maintain necessary supplies/food items for programming within approved budget.
- Independently plan and implement evening, weekend, holiday and community activities for assigned residents.
- Assist in the development and distribution of activity calendars.
- Supervise and assist with student intern program.
- Act as Department Supervisor in the absence of the Director as assigned.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in preparation of reports, studies and quality assurance activities.
- Maintain bulletin boards.
- Coordinate with Volunteer Services, to request and direct volunteers during departmental programs.
- Transport residents to and from recreation programs.
- All other job duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: One year work experience in Recreation in a geriatric setting two semesters
of college fieldwork in a geriatric setting would be acceptable in lieu of the one year experience.
RELATION TO OTHER POSITIONS: Daily contact with and ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, volunteers, entertainers and representatives of community recreation programs and the general public.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: Sits 0-25% of the day. Lifts 20-50 pounds. Frequent twisting, bending, squatting, walking, pushing and pulling. Ability to perform objectively under stress. Sensitive to the needs/problems of the geriatric residents. Physical work intensity level 3.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in well-lighted, ventilated area.
ADVERSE WORKING CONDITIONS: May be exposed to infections, disease and disagreeable odors. May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members and volunteers.
VARIABLES: May be required to work weekends, holidays and evenings.
