Job Purpose
This position is responsible for coordinating staff at a designated site and for overseeing and directing arts
and crafts, games, and other activities for a summer playground program for school-aged children, 6-13
years old. Essential Duties
Coordinate and lead the work of employees assigned to a designated summer playground program site.
Regularly communicate with supervisors to share ideas and concerns and to distribute information from supervisors to staff.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, incidents and other documents.
Organize, supervise, and conduct recreational and educational activities for children in an outdoor playground setting.
Create weekly calendars, track daily attendance, and distribute surveys.
Monitor supplies and equipment levels and inform recreation supervisor when more supplies and equipment are needed.
Supervise and prepare children for guest speakers and field trips.

Job Related and Essential Qualifications - Knowledge of:
Facilities and equipment needed in a summer playground program and or proper physical planning and
arrangement of activities.
Leadership and staff motivation techniques
Conflict resolution, child development, and group management
Arts and crafts and non-competitive games

Skill to:
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Understand child development, group management, teaching techniques, and learning styles.
Resolve conflicts
Create activity schedules and facilitate physical education activities, crafts, and educational opportunities.

Ability to:
Lead and coordinate the work of staff assigned to a site and communicate with supervisors
Manage a group of children in an outdoor setting
Assist children with peer conflicts
Create and follow a schedule of activities
Ensure the safety and orderliness of the storage and play environments
Maintain positive public relations with parents and general public License and/or Certificate Requirements
CPR and First Aid training preferred Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Training):
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills,
and abilities would be qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience:
Two years performing child care work or working at any other child centered facility

Training:
High school education or equivalent preferred
