Position Summary:

Carboline is looking to hire a Field Technical Service Manager that will focus specifically on our Rail segment. This position will oversee the coordination of field service jobs through sales representatives for Carboline’s customers within the rail market. This will be a player/coach position and will be responsible for spending 40% - 60% of their time in physical rail shops providing technical support while also managing a team of 3 individuals which includes assigning them to handle service and technical needs. This position will be responsible for evaluating application properties of new or changed formulations/products and will work with customers and Carboline personnel on problems and complaints. Applicants must be willing to travel up to approximately 90-% as required. This individual will report into to the Director of Sales - Rail.

Preferred location for this position are candidates based and or willing to relocate to St. Louis, Chicago, Ohio or Houston.

Requirements:

  • 4-year Technical degree or equivalent experience
  • 5-10 years Technical Service Experience
  • 3-5 years Supervisor or Management experience
  • Prior experience and knowledge working within the Rail industry is a must!

Physical Requirements:

This position requires minimal physical activity. May require lifting up to 50lbs on occasion. May require computer usage for an extended period of time – up to 8 hours in a day. Occasional exposure to various chemicals. May require travel by car up to 75%, including nighttime.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicates with field sales and service representatives checking on scheduling, materials and equipment related to field jobs.
  • Instructs field personnel on background jobs assigned, equipment, and data needed.
  • Provides weekly field job status reports plus pending future jobs.
  • Reviews and approves expense accounts of Field Service Representatives.
  • Answers telephone inquiries from customers, sales representatives, and Technical Service Representatives regarding coating recommendations, application procedures, equipment and techniques, and other problems where special job conditions exist.
  • Corresponds with customers, sales and Technical Service Representatives on job problems, product use, equipment, application techniques, or other related subjects.
  • Reviews, and if necessary, recommends necessary changes in the product data or application instructions and other technical data on products (This is with the PLM Product Line Manager).
  • Works with lab groups to improve the application characteristics desired in products.
  • Coordinates the evaluation of new or revised products, and sees that proper personnel are informed of results.
  • Participates (presenter) in sales and customer training courses.
  • Responsible for application training of products for Technical Service and other company personnel.
  • Develops working relationships with specifiers/shops by means of telephone conversations or routine visits and specific trips to solve problems with equipment or application of products.
  • Will be the key technical resource for complaint resolution. This includes working with Carboline personnel as well as customers. It may require in-person meetings or written responses with customers.
  • Works closely with the Rail Director of Sales, Rail BDS and Marketing with Carboline’s education initiatives for shops, shippers, owners and fleet management companies.
  • Gets involved with industry groups to increase Carboline visibility in the Rail Market
  • Strives for improvements related to Rail Technical Service and the overall Rail Group. This will involve using the available resources for items such as Rail School/Training updates, further education for the Rail Group employees, methods of reporting, group communication, etc.
  • Handles other assignments as directed by Group Manager, Director of Sales, or VP of Sales.
  • Committed to the Company’s safety and quality programs.
