Job Summary
The Process Engineer’s general responsibilities are to provide day-to-day production engineering support for Dixie Chemical Pasadena Production Units. To direct the safe and efficient operation of the production units assigned, upholding EHS standards and ensuring compliance with EHS policies and procedures. Establish and drive plant performance indicators, including raw material and energy usage, fixed and capital spending as well as overall equipment efficiency.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Focuses and analyzes on resolving short-term issues within the Production Unit to optimize equipment availability, unit operating efficiency, and production mix.
- Develop and safely implement engineering projects within allocated budgets and time schedules. Resolving all personnel and process safety issues, as well as contractor supervision.
- Utilizes knowledge of processes and equipment to monitor and drive plant performance indicators including overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), unit operation compliance, raw material and energy usage, and fixed cost spending. Improve the operating skills, technical knowledge, and working environment of the workforce.
- Support and lead new product introduction and plant optimization trials
- Participate as necessary in PHMP and PSM requirements, including but not limited to: HAZOP Reviews, Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews, Incident Reporting, and Management of Change.
- Perform safety observation audits.
- Participate on EHS teams/meetings to address safety and environmental issues as well as participate in safety team.
- Participation in risk assessment audits (PHA, CTA, JSA, etc.) as applicable.
- Ensure plant housekeeping is maintained at a high level.
- Conduct plant walkthroughs on a regular basis ensuring work standards are maintained.
- Develop and conduct training programs including both classroom and field training.
- Acts as a unit technical expert during unplanned events and drives implementation of effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Ensures compliance with plant operating permits.
- Other assignments derived from the Dixie Chemical leadership team to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
- 3 - 7 years applicable process/production experience in chemical processing, batch experience preferred
- Experience with project management
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written

Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. This job may require the following: walking primarily on a level surface periodically through out the day; reaching above shoulder heights and below the waist to lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday and lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Proper lifting techniques are required.
Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment, approximately 50% of the time. The other 50% will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as hard hat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses with side shields, and mandatory hearing protection.
