Position Summary:

The Advanced Process Engineer is responsible for providing technical direction and support to Cooper Standard manufacturing facilities. This position will facilitate the standardization of processes by incoming material, including the development and maintenance of standards used for material specification and procurement, cost estimating, and the sharing of best practices within Cooper Standard. This position works closely with Manufacturing, Sales, Engineering, Finance, Purchasing and Cost Estimating.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Cooper Standard’s manufacturing facilities to reduce cost, improve quality and achieve advancements in both process and product technology
  • Provides technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance in the rubber extrusion and mixing processes
  • Identifies and recommends polymeric materials based on product specifications for the purposes of cost estimating
  • Leads the research and implementation of new or improved materials to satisfy changing production requirements. Works with outside vendors and plant engineering for these efforts.
  • Leads projects to develop and validate new materials as necessary. May be required to obtain/negotiate approval or revisions to customer product specifications
  • Initiates projects and tasks through creative insight, leveraging manufacturing and product knowledge
  • Confirms feasibility/capability of proposed material/product/process improvements using statistical methods
  • Directs daily activities of Lab Technicians within the same department
  • Understanding of Cooper Standard engineering practices outside of your main discipline
  • Understands best practices, processes, and customers
  • Keeps current on developments related to manufacturing and product technology through meetings with suppliers, customers, trade publications, etc.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Engineering is preferred
  • Typically has two plus years of experience in rubber and/or thermoplastic manufacturing or mixing
  • Solves problems in typical situations; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience and judgment
  • Impacts quality and effectiveness of own work team and the work of others on the team; works within guidelines and policies to achieve objectives and meet deadlines
  • Ability to explain moderately complex information to others in concise manner
  • Good written and presentation skills
  • Must have good technical and mechanical aptitude
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to assess risk and prioritize
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary

Work Environment/Work Conditions:

  • Professional Office Environment
  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor or testing laboratories
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
  • Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
