As the Principal Advisor of ESG Strategy, you will support shaping the ESG strategy aligned with Commercial Strategy, Group Strategy, and ESG objectives. Join this fast-paced team that is accountable for driving the external industrial strategy of the company for and with our customers and supply chains.
Reporting to the Manager, Strategy ESG, Marketing & ESG, Metals and Minerals
- Support ESG Commercial Strategy, including deepening and expanding ESG integration across the commercial process to both manage risks and drive sustainable value creation across the portfolio
- Actively engage and manage internal stakeholders like Commercial Operations, Commercial Procurement, and Product Groups/Assets and influence external stakeholders in support of delivering the Commercial ESG strategy
- Interface for internal stakeholders on key strategic ESG interactions, ensuring the strategies are well embedded in the way we develop offerings, the way we create the market/customers, and the way we differentiate ourselves via technical and innovative services
- Provide solution ideas to convert Rio Tinto products into solutions for a Green future, enhance the depth of knowledge and subject matter Commercial understanding for materials like Aluminium, Copper, Battery Materials, and Other Mineral products, including Borates and critical minerals
- Work with product stewardship & ESG agenda and how solutions are created with the customer in mind
- Ensure a feedback loop is created for the ESG strategy via market development, technical marketing, and product management; all insights should continuously develop the strategy
- Support building business cases for new ESG Commercial opportunities and initiatives, including but not limited to investment thesis and conviction for organic and inorganic growth
- Influence global requirements of industry ESG data, analytics, and tools that can deliver additional value
- Provide advisement to senior and executive management on business reporting activities and synthesis of information for communication
- Create, join or enhance industry-wide thought leadership movement
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technical, Sustainability, or related disciplines is required
- Strong ESG and commercial acumen with 2-4 years of prior experience in ESG or Sustainability
- Subject matter expertise in key ESG topics such as carbon accounting, life cycle assessments, product environmental footprint and recycling.
- Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and change context to develop workable and sustainable solutions
- Influencing skills with the ability to translate strategic and ESG technical content into actionable insights
- Possesses innate curiosity, observes empathetically, and enjoys creatively driven problem solving
- Ability to navigate and operating successfully in a matrix organization, with stakeholders’ engagement and business partnering skills being key requisites.
- Competencies in collaboration, listening, ability to receive and provide feedback in a positive manner, and embodiment of RT behaviors will be required
- Ability to travel
