Summary:

The Primary Counselor will be assigned a primary caseload function as a member of the program’s interdisciplinary treatment team and provides direct counseling and case management services to Residential Rehabilitation clients, with guidance and supervision from the Director of Residential Rehabilitation Unit or assigned supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Provides comprehensive client assessments, individualized treatment plans, timely plan reviews and updates and appropriate discharge plans in collaboration with the client and interdisciplinary team.

B. Provides accurate and timely documentation to client’s legal, DSS and court reports as indicated in the client assessment.

C. Completes all chart documentation in accordance with NYS OASAS and agency policy and procedures. Responsible to audit chart regularly to ensure completeness and compliance of record.

D. Provides individual and group counseling using evidence-based techniques and curriculum.

E. Provides educational lectures/discussions on substance use disorder and related topics for clients and family members.

F. Participates in case-conference, interdisciplinary rounds and staff meetings.

G. Maintain current license/certification; attend trainings and seminars as needed or requested.

H. Assist in coordinating treatment with outside social service agencies for referral and aftercare.

I. Document the provision of services as per agency policy and OASAS requirements.

J. Collaborate care with Director, Client Billing Staff, Counselors, Clients, Family Members, and Referents.

K. Provided client supervision and assists in milieu therapies.

L. Acts as the shift lead and communicates with the Unit Directors.

M. Facilitates communication with medical and clinical staff to meet all client needs.

O. Facilities crisis intervention as needed.

P. Facilitates family workshops and individual counseling as assigned.

Q. Monitors the workflow of counselor aides and Peer Advocates to ensure the safety of the unit, client centered practices and ethical/profession practices are adhered to at all times.

R. Other duties as requested.

Working conditions and physical demands:

Potential for unpredictable clients or clients under stressful situations that require consistent support.

Qualifications:

  • CASAC or other QHP status in NYS. Education and/or experience:
  • High school diploma, GED
  • Must have at least 2 years of current substance use disorder treatment experience.

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies:

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficient computer skills.
  • CASAC or other QHP status in related field
