Introduction

Stepping Stones has been serving children in the Los Altos area for over 25 years. We are a highly regarded private for-profit child development center in the Los Altos community licensed for up to 100 children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old. Our proprietary curriculum incorporates the best of Academic, Play Based and Montessori curricula. We are open year-round and offer full-day (7:30-5:30) care 2-5 days a week.

Our Philosophy

We believe the basis for any childcare program must be a safe, loving, clean and stimulating environment. Children need a program that is structured but also flexible, that provides for variety in experience, and that utilizes appropriate levels of difficulty and pacing. Learning should be the result of actual experience using playtime as a valuable mode of learning.

The Position

We are looking for an experienced full-time salaried Director to manage the center. You will work with our part-time Office Manager that will handle all the financial side of the business, including billing, payroll, accounting, bill payment, landscaping and information technology. You will be supported by an Assistant Director running our Infant/Toddler program and to cover for you in your absence. Typical responsibilities include:

• Communicating the philosophies of the school.
• Staying aware of government policies relating to Early Childhood Education.
• Staying aware of trends in the Early Childhood Education industry.
• Supporting classroom curriculum.
• Monitoring arrangement and environment of the classroom.
• Conducting tours and describing the program to visitors.
• Hiring, coaching and developing a team of teachers.
• Setting hours and schedules to ensure ratios are met.
• Maintaining parent school relations.
• Maintain licensing requirements.
• Purchasing food and supplies.

Qualifications

A minimum of 2-years of experience is required as a Director of a Title 22 school in California licensed for more than 50 children. Other qualifications include:

• Positive team leader.
• Knowledge and experience with California Licensing regulations.
• Passionate about Early Childhood Education.
• Classroom management experience.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Being calm under pressure
• Leadership experience with teams larger than 10 teachers.
• Must meet all State of California Licensing requirements for a Center Director, including Operations & Record Keeping, and Preventative Health Training.

Honestly, hiring a director is new to us. We have been owner-operated for over 25 years. The last time we had to transition control of a school was when we bought the school over 25 years ago. At that time our policy was to move slow and show parents improvement over what they had previously experienced. It went well. We are looking for a strong leader, first and foremost, that will ease us out of the owner operated model.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
