Shawmut Services is seeking canvassers to participate in the organization’s direct voter contact program. As a canvasser, you will travel door to door in the community to talk to voters. You will be responsible for having a certain number of conversations per day. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• There is no formal education requirement for this position
• Must have the ability to stand/walk for long periods (up to 6 hours per day) while meeting and talking to people
• Comfortable with, knowledgeable of, and enthusiastic about discussing topics related to progressive politics, advocacy, and public policy
• Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends
• Ability to memorize and recite scripts and statements prepared and provided by Shawmut Services
• Consistently meet daily and weekly conversation goals
• Understand how to use a cell-phone to track and submit data
• Excellent communication skills including active listening and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work within a team and independently based on employer requirements
• Good time management skills to fulfill goals within a specific period
• Ability to travel consistently during the contract period

PREFERRED:

• Previous experience with data entry and reporting functions
• Previous paid or volunteer canvass or fundraising experience (including door-to-door sales work, Census outreach work, etc.)
• Telemarketing or retail marketing experience
• Social service or organizing experience

• Evening shift
• Monday to Friday
• Weekend availability
