Job description
BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide professional public health nursing services in a clinical or home setting. The nurse is required to work in all health department clinics including; Immunizations, Child Health, Tuberculosis, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Case Management and assist with epidemiological investigations. This is accomplished by assessing client needs and services, working with patients and caregivers, reviewing and maintaining health records, completing initial screenings and assessments, completing lab procedures, providing medications and immunizations, obtaining vital signs, and consulting with physicians, charting results, and documenting data and medical records. This position will enable an applicant to give back to the community. Position work days are Monday through Friday.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Texas. Must be CPR and First Aid Certified.

Applicants must have the ability to wear and use the N95 respirator to perform essential functions of the Public Health Nurse position. Must meet immunizations requirements after employment begins.

# Code Essential Functions
1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 L Receives and processes patient information by reviewing basic medical information and history, assessing needs, screening, taking vital signs, recording information and medical needs, charting results and providing technical support to physicians.
3 L Collaborates with physicians and manages cases by administering medications, reviewing lab results with patients, administering injections and immunizations, providing pre-natal screening, education and information, providing communicable disease education and information, completing newborn screenings, and coordinating services and referrals with other agencies.
4 L Documents case records and prepares documentation related to services or treatment provided by updating and completing charts, completing and submitting billings, completing case management reports, and entering related information into databases.
5 L Follows up with clients by making home visits, contacting individuals by phone or mail, working with caregivers and/or parents, providing additional educational materials, following up on missed appointments, and scheduling further appointments or referrals.

Formal Education Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
