The Registered Pharmacist, Clinical and Operations Pediatrics primary job roles include evaluating pharmacotherapy, provision of drug information, Epic order verification, and oversight of technician drug preparation and distribution. A strong pharmacotherapy knowledge base is necessary to optimize patient therapy. This individual will work primarily in the Pediatric Pharmacy Satellite which also covers operating room patient care Monday- Friday.
This individual will also have the opportunity to work in the Central Pharmacy. Both operational areas have oversight of sterile medication preparation. After completing training, the pharmacist in this role will use their breadth of clinical and operational knowledge to care for both pediatric and adult patient populations. Additional opportunities include working as a Pharmacist in Charge with additional training. This opportunity includes troubleshooting drug shortages, coordinating sick call coverage, and providing leadership and feedback to technicians and other staff. The individual must display maturity, independence, initiative, and strong verbal communication skills. In addition, the individuals will exemplify Rush, mission, vision, and values and act in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

This individual will also have the opportunity to rotate through a decentralized role care for ante, intra, and postpartum patients on a new and growing service.

This position will work both day and evening shifts



Position Responsibilities:

Provide patient-specific pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to the medical and nursing staff for both adult and pediatric patient populations.
Evaluate and verify Epic provider orders for therapeutic appropriateness, proper dosing, optimal dosage form, drug interactions, allergic reactions, route and rate of administration and therapeutic redundancy.
Clarify provider orders, when necessary, through direct and timely contact with prescriber or designated practitioner.
Document Epic clinical interventions.
Oversight of all workflow operations, including but not limited to, Pyxis restock, oral and IV batch production, compounded medication checking, dispensing carousel, IV Robot and Dose Edge product checks.
Perform daily review of specified pharmacy dashboard reports including pharmacokinetic monitoring, and other drug or patient specific reports, as necessary.
Precepting of IPPE and APPE students on rotation and residents during orientation, staffing roles and/or projects/research.
Conduct monthly nursing unit inspections of medication storage areas as assigned.
Supervise pharmacy technician staff involved in the preparation and delivery of medications ensuring coordination of workflows with established delivery schedules.
Coordinate medication ordering, preparation, dispensing, and administration systems.
Participate in SE (ADR and medication error) reporting programs.
Implement all drug use policy and formulary decisions of the Pharmacy, Nutrition and Therapeutics Committee.
Maintain working knowledge of medical center and departmental policies and procedures.
Participate in Adult and Pediatric Code Blue
Conduct or participate in medication use evaluations, quality improvement projects, or medical center or pharmacy department committees.
Demonstrate the ability to prioritize work to optimize resources.

Position Qualifications Include:

Currently licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of Illinois or license-eligible in the state of Illinois. - Required
Doctor of Pharmacy degree plus PGY1 residency - Preferred
Doctor of Pharmacy degree plus 3 years of health system pharmacy experience - Preferred
Previous work experience caring for the pediatric patient population. - Preferred
