Payroll Tax Analyst

A great opportunity for a payroll tax professional with proven skills in payroll tax notice resolution at the federal, state, and local levels for a multi-entity $3B nationwide staffing company.

Payroll Tax Analyst Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze tax notices as they are scanned into our Agency Notice Tracking System. Administer and catalog the notices within the system appropriately.
  • Research and identify the cause of each tax notice using multiple payroll platforms and back-office systems.
  • Communicate with federal, state, and local tax agencies (via various methods) to determine the path to issue resolution.
  • Document all activities and action required for notice resolution within our Agency Notice Tracking System.
  • Provide weekly updates to leadership on the status of assigned notices.

  • Take appropriate action to resolve tax issues as agreed upon with leadership.
  • Identify and escalate high-impact notices to leadership to promote visibility and ensure resolution is reached in an expedited manner.
  • Perform monthly audit of all payroll tax systems to ensure unemployment tax rates are updated.
  • Perform quarterly audit of all tax accounts to ensure all filings and payments have been posted.
  • Work with other internal departments as needed to perform research.

  • Review, identify and make recommendations for system and process improvement
  • Other payroll tax projects and duties, as needed.

Payroll Tax Analyst Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in payroll tax processing or tax notice resolution.
  • Experience working with a Third-Party Vendor (Ceridian) providing payroll tax services preferred.
  • Multi-state/Multi-FEIN organization experience required.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Designation highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience with complex federal, state, and local tax issues and resolution management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook), Advanced Excel skills to include V-Lookup, Pivot Tables and Macros.

Payroll Tax Analyst Other Requirements:

Candidate needs to possess the ability to analyze and comprehend complex or diverse information; collect and research data; uses experience to complement data. Excellent problem-solving skills. Possess the ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks and set expectations for internal partners with competing priorities, in a fast-paced, deadline-driven organization. Great verbal and written customer service skills needed to communicate with a variety of clients. Will work in a team but needs to be to be self-motivated. Must be able to follow policy, procedures and respond in a timely manner.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position in the US is $60,000 - $70,000.

This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
