Patient Service Rep - West End
Job description
We are looking for an outgoing, customer service driven Patient Service Representative for our West End Office!
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Patient Service Representative (PSR) is responsible for proper execution of daily front desk operations, greeting and checking in all patients for office appointments, including paperwork for patients to fill out, scanning insurance cards, entering all demographic information into the electronic health record, entering referrals for office visits into EMR, scanning for staff as needed, and working closely with physicians and staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Registers and checks patient in and out, updating all changes to demographic and insurance information for proper billing; completes in practice management system and electronic record system.
· Secures payments from patients for office visits and/or prior balances.
· Balances and reconciles payments daily.
· Check insurance eligibility through EMR or payor websites.
· Reschedule patients on bump/wait lists and process referral letters as needed.
· Maintain daily petty cash/patient change fund log sheet.
· Scheduling new patient and follow-up appointments.
· Answering incoming calls, completes, routes, and directs as appropriate.
· Knowledge of all insurance carrier requirements and referrals needed.
· Attends all department staff meetings.
· Participates in orientation and training of new staff members.
· Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management system and electronic medical record system.
· Maintains a neat work area.
· All other job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Education and/or experience in a medical office setting; medical terminology preferred.
· Good communication and customer service skills. Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or on the phone and establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
· Basic knowledge of keyboard and accurate data entry skills.
· A team player who works well under pressure.
· Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
· Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Can file correctly using alpha and numeric systems.
· Experience with electronic medical records, and electronic mail would be very helpful.
· Ability to travel between offices if needed.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
· Medical office setting.
· Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.
· Some exposure to communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a medical office setting.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
· Sitting for 7-8 hours a day.
· Must be able to view a computer screen for an extended period.
· Must be able to change roles as the typical weekly schedule may vary.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
